This past Monday, Joanna Thibault, of The Knitting Studio, joined us at SewGreen@ROC as a part-time shop manager. Among her other responsibilities, she will be writing this newsletter, editing our website, and posting updates on our social media accounts. She will be at the shop most Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Come by, introduce yourself, and welcome her when you get the chance. She is looking forward to meeting you! |

An Update from Marionette Camp |
All week our shop has been busy and buzzing with creative Marionette Campers. We have puppets-in-progress all around us, and are looking forward with great anticipation to see the end results of all this activity. In the meantime, meet some of our new puppeteers! To the right, Bridget practices manipulating a couple of Puppet Master, Tom Bohrer's glove marionettes. |

Above left, Anna shows off the beginnings of her marionette, and above right, Brigid is sewing a bit of bling to one of her marionette's ears. Below left, one of our camp interns, Mary, works with Ruth on her marionette, and below right, another camp intern, Elizabeth, works with Kerry. The internships were made possible by St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Dansville, NY. |

At a Recent Kids' Sewing Club... Elena (on the right) finished another skirt! This one she intends to wear on her first day back at school this fall. Because it's navy blue, it fulfills her school's uniform requirements, and we hear she'll be bringing black fabric to the shop soon so she can sew another. Congratulations, Elena, on another sewing success! And thank you, Paula and Rosemarie (two of our spectacular Saturday volunteers), for capturing this great photo finish! |
And that same Saturday... Georgia Carney represented SewGreen@ROC at the annual Arnett Block Party. She had a great time, revisiting the street where it all began, and seeing long-time friends of the shop. One of those friends, Mitzie Collins, captured the image to the left. Thanks, Mitzie! |

New Volunteer Co-Coordinator! Rosemarie Penzotti, who volunteers at the shop Fridays and Saturdays, and can often be found there other days as well, has agreed to join Lynne McNulty as volunteer co-coordinator. Rosemarie is also responding to most of the donation requests that come to the shop. Thank you so much, Rosemarie, for agreeing to become such an important part of our SewGreen@Rochester family. Volunteers like you make the workload lighter! |

Serger 101/201 Sergers can be a little intimidating but they are great sewing tools once you understand how to use and adjust them to suit your project! Bring your serger, or sit down at the shop sergers, and learn the basics of threading and tension. Or, if you've learned the basics of sergers, but want to go further, Serger 201 is the class for you! Both 101 and 201 are offered side-by-side, Tuesday, August 22, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. or 5 to 7 p.m. If you're bringing your own serger, please remember to bring your serger's manual and all its feet, too! Sewing Machine 101/201 We are offering our most popular class once more in August: Monday, August 28, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. or 4 to 6 p.m. Bring your own sewing machine, or learn on one of ours. Begin at the beginning, or build on skills you already possess. Either way, this is the class that will open possibilities for you and your sewing machine! |
