Healthy Food is Secure Food! Sea & Learn 2024 will introduce the expansion of the SLF platform to include agriculture and reforestation and how it equates to healthy living. The 14 presentation evenings in October will showcase healthy food samples prepared by a local chef and handed out to attendees prior to the start of the presentation. The samples will be created from available local produce with recipe cards as part of the hand out. The recipe cards will also include nutritional benefits and fun facts to show that healthy can be easy. Just another reason to sea and learn with us!

Create & Learn More--Kids Embark on Cultural Art Journeys with Tapestry and Totem Pole projects: The final Create & Learn event of the year runs from November 14-25. Mark Hemmings will lead smartphone photography classes (he literally wrote the book on it) while Yulia Anderson will get us in the holiday spirit with Christmas crafting! SLF has also been working with Saba's youth from the after school programs on two larger scale creations. Teens from the Spot worked with Jacob Frederick on a totem pole project, which features carvings of Saba’s natural and cultural symbols. "Stitching Saba" an embroidered tapestry (designed by Emily June and guided by Ellen Higgins-Lockhart) focusing on the island's iconic creatures and landscapes, has just begun. Stay tuned!

Nature Education on Saba and Statia For over 20 years, the Sea & Learn Foundation (SLF) has ignited environmental awareness with its dynamic month-long “Sea & Learn” program on Saba. Now, with Saba and Statia sharing close ties, rich natural resources, and similar environmental challenges, the SLF is thrilled to bring this successful initiative to Statia as well. In 2023, the SLF, in collaboration with STENAPA and WWF Dutch Caribbean, launched a groundbreaking pilot program on the island. Sea & Learn will once again return to Statia October 29th to November 1st, with this year’s spotlight on the fascinating movement patterns of reef-dwelling sharks and health of sea turtles!
