Meeting Details

at Host Wenatchee

10 S Columbia Ave, Wenatchee

Bring a dish to share!

June Program: Teacher Tina Nicpan-Brown will guide us through a lesson and we will hear about other projects from additional grant winners.

This will be a new location for our Potluck. Next to The Host is a parking lot, so parking will not be an issue. This location has a 70-person maximum. The date is after school is out – so it would be wonderful to see some ACTIVES. Here is your chance to check out not only The Host location but Chelan-Douglas School Retirees Association in-person. Feel free to bring a non-member. We look forward to seeing some new faces.

Bring a dish to share. Don’t forget to bring a plate & some eating utensils. If you are wanting something other than water, bring that too. If you forget any of the above, there will always be extra food and supplies. School is out. Come meet up for food and socialization. This is a perfect time to meet & greet & eat.

Meet several Mini-Grant recipients and hear about how they used their mini-grant money. If you have received a mini-grant application and need a few more ideas about what to do with extra money for your students, here is a great chance to learn about how other recipients spent their grant dollars. Wenatchee Teacher, Tina Nicpan-Brown will be sharing the lesson, that her CDSRA mini-grant helped to support.

The opportunity for mini-grant money will once again happen in the fall of 2023. The amount available is $250 – $500. Watch for the mini-grant application in the mail, usually around early October.

There is a flight of stairs to reach the facility. An elevator is available, but please contact Kriss if you need instructions for its use. If you have any questions at all – please email Kriss Crilly.

These details are also available on our Meetings page on the website.

WSSRA Update

  1. A 3% Plan 1 COLA for 2023 (capped at $110 per month).

  2. The $183 monthly Medicare Eligible Healthcare Benefit for calendar years 2024 and 2025.

  3. House Bills 1008 and 1056 to streamline healthcare and return-to-work rules for members of retirement plans 2 and 3.

  4. Maintaining Plan 1 unfunded liability payments at suitable levels. $250 million of the TRS 1 paydown is maintained as are adequate annual payments.

The next step is keeping an eye on the Select Committee for Pension Policy. They are tasked with doing a study toward adequate funding for TRS and PRS retirement benefits. The study is to be completed by 2025.

Our District 7 WSSRA legislative committee member, Patty Anderson, suggested that members meet with people on the Select Committee, three of whom live in Spokane, perhaps over the summer.

The number of comments and calls our legislative representatives received from our members really did make a difference. Thank you all for your efforts in getting the PLAN 1 folks the retirement benefits they deserve.

Thanks also goes to District 12 Senator Hawkins and Representative Steele and Goehner who were supportive of our legislation.  District 7  Senator Short and Representatives Kretz and Maycumber and their staffs were very pleasant when I visited and listened to and supported our needs for our PLAN 1 members.

NOW is the time to join the PAC!

The WSSR Political Action Committee is the program that helps elect pro-educational retiree Legislators. Because it is political, its funding is separate from WSSRA, the PAC must collect funds separate from our dues.

As we go into this next election cycle, it will be important to be able to support "pro-educational retiree" candidates. Please contribute to this important aspect of our organization. Visit wssr-pac.org today!

Chelan Douglas Keeps Giving!

The CDSRA Board approved a $1,000 grant to the  Performing Arts Center to help fund the Every Kid at the PAC program which will continue to allow students from our valley to attend live performances.

We also contributed $1000 to the NCESD's STEM Summit, August

15 – 17th, for educators this summer Watch for the CDSRA Banner there!
