MISSION AND OUTREACH COMMITTEE

A CHILD NEEDS YOU!

Our mentoring program with local schools was put on hold during the pandemic, but we're gearing up to get started again this fall. Creative Mentoring provides the needed training for you to make a difference in a child's life. Mentoring involves only half an hour to an hour once a week with a child who may be in need of only a caring adult to listen, play games, talk to or help with school work or organizational skills.

If you are interested in becoming a mentor, email Candy Dunson. If we have 3 or more new mentors, we can arrange for the training to be done as a group at our church this fall.

FALL CLEAN-OUT IS ALREADY HERE!

It's not too soon to be thinking of cleaning out and donating good, clean used clothes for our annual Friendship House Clothing Drive. This year, Friendship House is especially looking for men's fall and winter clothes, which are in high demand. While all clothes are welcome, they're also interested in new or used school uniforms: solid color polo shirts and khaki pants, new or used, any size!

We'll collect the clothes throughout the month of September. Donations can be left in the Mission/Outreach room of the Fellowship Hall (second room on the right at the top of the stairs). Let's Stuff the Bus once again with our generous donations!

Virtual Journey to Guatemala: “The New Face of Mission”
Wednesday, August 24, 2022  -  7:30pm

What is the “New Face of Mission” in a world still reeling from colonialism? Join CEDEPCA for the next Virtual Journey to Guatemala where we will talk about what makes for healthy cross-cultural relationships. If you lead mission trips or ever plan to, this Virtual Journey is for you. We will use the new book, Freeing Congregational Mission: A Practical Vision for Companionship, Cultural Humility, and Co-Development, as the focal point in our conversation.

The book’s co-authors Hunter Farrell and Bala Khyllep are professors and directors of the World Mission Initiative at Pittsburgh Theological Seminary. We are excited that both authors will be present to guide us on this Virtual Journey. Participants are encouraged to read the book beforehand for a richer experience.

Pre-registration is required here.

To buy the book, please visit here. If you buy the book at IVP, use discount code: MISSION for a 30% discount + free shipping in the USA. A purchase of more than 10 books receives a 40% discount (no code needed)
