Community Update #1: May, 2021

Happy Spring to the West Bay Community

The Board of the WBRA is pleased to introduce to you the first Community Update newsletter for 2021.

In this issue

Highlights of this edition include the latest information on West Bay neighbourhood development proposals – did you know there are currently eight new development proposals underway in our community?

Also, have you ever wondered what process a developer goes through to amend an Official Community Plan and/or zoning bylaw?

Learn About the Process

Do you want to know how to contact Esquimalt Council or where to send a letter to Council?

Find Out How

All this and more is included in this update and is available on our website.

We have information on DADUs, Esquimalt's answer to gentle backyard densification, and the Public Service Building's Alternate Approval Process  for undertaking a $35 million loan.

We also have an interesting update on the new sewage treatment plant from the WBRA representative of the Esquimalt Liaison Committee.

Included here are links to information about Esquimalt's rich heritage, including our Heritage Registry, and Esquimalt's Heritage Policy.

We finish off with thoughts for a possible community event for the summer, COVID-19 permitting, called Meet Your Neighbour.

In this next edition you will find all the regular updates as well as other interesting resources, tools and information pieces.

Sneak preview – Did you know that West Bay actually had a brewery at one time? The residents of the property where it was located are still pulling out 100 year-old beer bottles from their garden.

Also watch for “Understanding the OCP” which will be about as exciting as any article about an OCP can be.
