SPRING FARM BOX PACKED AND DELIVERED BY PACIFIC BEACH HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS

Just before the school closures, "Farm" class students fulfilled orders for 30 boxes of vegetables they grew and marketed.  More information on this event here.

On the last day of the marking period, business enterprise teacher Jen Dudley led students through a review of the session's Farm Box Program.

CITY FARMERS FOCUS ON SITE IMPROVEMENTS AND SPRING PLANTING TO GROW AS MUCH FOOD AS POSSIBLE DURING  COMMUNITY LOCKDOWN

Agriculture, food cultivation, farming and community gardens are classified by SLO County as "essential activities" and are therefore exempted from Shelter at Home orders.  While putting two elements of our threefold mission on hold--"providing youth with onsite educational programs" and "engaging the community in the life of an urban farm"-- we are carrying out the first: "to MANAGE THE LAND FOR SUSTAINABLE AGRICULTURAL PRODUCTION." In doing so we practice social distancing and heightened hygienic constraints.

We are grateful for donations of starts from Greenheart Farms, for discounted compost from Cal Poly Compost, and for technical assistance from Jocelyn Boudreau of Hortau Irrigation Management Service.
