Biochar Burn success! Biochar is a great soil amendment in soil, in compost piles, and a good way to sequester carbon while getting rid of your branch pruning and extra wood. This workshop involved several hours on physical work of loading branches into the pit. The fire is closely monitored and put out with water before the coals turn to ash. Location was at Lilykoi Farm in Arroyo Grande, growers of exotic subtropical fruits. The coals are then ground up and can be inncolated in a compost pile to become BIOCHAR. We will add to our compost pile at Our Global Family Farm on September 17th at 10am. We will host the biochar workshop again in the spring of 2024. |
