|
On March 17th, our city celebrated Irish culture and heritage at the 139th St. Patrick's Day Parade with a parade of floats, marching bands, and dancers through the heart of Midtown.
Mayor Andre Dickens and our team also enjoyed welcoming Darragh O'Brien TD, Minister for Housing, Local Government, and Heritage to the City of Atlanta. The Minister's visit coincided with the annual tribute to Father O’Reilly, where members of the Irish community, led by the Hibernian Benevolent Society, gather at City Hall to commemorate Father O’Reilly, an Irish priest who saved Atlanta City Hall and other buildings from destruction during the Civil War.
We also enjoyed attending the annual St. Patrick’s Day reception hosted by the Consulate General of Ireland in Atlanta, IDA Ireland, and Enterprise Ireland. After brief remarks by Minister O'Brien, Consul General Chonchúir, and representatives from the hosting organizations, Atlanta Irish Dance gave a lively performance to keep the celebrations going. |
