Coaching Services As a certified coach (USAT&F Level I, RRCA Level II, UESCA Running & Ultrarunning, & Lydiard Foundation Level II) I want to make sure each athlete not only gets the training they need, but to maintain the joy and fun that running should be! I love running, and I want to make sure each runner finds and maintains their love for the sport as well!!! My Philosophy: I believe that running is a journey that should be shared and enjoyed along each step of the way. By coaching, I create a partnership with each individual athlete in which we get to know the individuals needs and ways in which we can find the most success in helping the athlete achieve his or her goal(s) through training. We cannot be successful without building trust in one another, and that begins with our daily honest communications as to how the athlete is performing in running and how daily life may be affecting their run for the day, week, or beyond. I believe in a comprehensive approach to training in which we have to consider the athlete’s history with training (successes & failures), strengths & weaknesses in training and how we can capitalize on the strengths and strengthen the weaknesses, and keeping a long term view for the athletes longevity and health in the sport. My goal for each athlete is to keep them healthy and enjoying the sport in route to helping them build stamina & endurance, while getting faster & stronger. I coach Middle School Aged to Adults and distances of 5k to Ultramarathon. For $125 a month, my coaching provides: Online Training Plan Using Training Peaks Premium Edition Daily Feedback & Weekly Email and Communications Unlimited text, emails, & calls Flexible Schedule Changes Private Facebook & Strava Groups Weekly Topic covered in a Zoom Conference w/ Q &A Sessions Crewing & Pacing at events Running Form Analysis Footwear and Gear Selection Private Events/Races so even if events are cancelled, you'll have something to look forward to!

2 WAYS TO GIVE BACK Last month I walked into my closet and felt disgusted by how much gear I have that I will never use. It gave me the idea and prompted a Podcast Episode to turn this into an opportunity to help others that may not be able to purchase these things. I'm excited to say that I've had a number of people take me up on my offer to provide them with gear they might need. I still have some packs, handhelds, hats, gloves, shirts, jackets, tights, socks, and other gear that I'm trying to give away to those who might be challenged financially. If you or someone you know could benefit from these items, please feel free to reach out to me. I will ship these at no cost to the person and this will remain between us. Secondly, I have decided to use the Patreon dollars received each month to donate a pair of shoes to a person in need each month. This brings up two points: 1. If you are in a financial pinch, and need a new pair of shoes, please reach out to me. At this point in time, I can only do one pair per month. 2. If you can financially help support this, please donate to my Patreon page (see link below).

Running Tip of the Month Group Runs Can Be So Much More! Group runs are great! It's a safe atmosphere to run with others, meet new people, and see new routes without fear of getting lost. So what else is there? Start with going outside your comfort zone every now and again. Group runs can have multiple pace groups. If so, join a faster pace group and use it as a workout. Let others know what you're doing and see if someone will stay with you in case the pace proves too much. This can be once or twice a month. Over time, who knows, the faster paced group might become your regular pace group. The picture at right is an amazing story! Many of the runners in the picture were a part of the Monday Night NCMTR Group Run. They called themselves "B Group". As their friendships grew over the Monday night runs, they often ran on other occasions. It wasn't abnormal for the "B Group" to connect for long runs, crew for one another in races, and even manage the Curtis Creek Aid Station. Message here, make connections at Group Runs and find some new training partners. Feeling bold, start your own Group Run. Be expectant that it may be small to start. Stick with it, be consistent, and spread the word through run groups, run shops, and social media. Be even bolder and make it a workout group. Do a workout each week focused on something you're training for. Most of all, enjoy the group run atmosphere doing the sport we love. Ask others questions you may have about running, gear, and races, and share your knowledge with others! |

I was at my daughter’s soccer practice when a thought innocently crossed my mind. I wondered if the Bigfoot 200 Mile posted the waitlist. You see, I had signed up (for some reason, we’ll get to that later) for the Bigfoot 200 lottery. I had waited with anticipation for the lottery, and the day came and went with no word on the lottery results. Nothing. Not a peep. Nothing on the internet, no email, no Facebook message, and nothing on the registration platform. Crickets. I slumped. It wasn’t until a few days later I saw someone post on Facebook they had received an email invite to register for the event. I quickly went to my inbox. Nothing. Then my junk mail. Nothing. I slumped again. I checked the registration & race website page for lottery winners. No update on either site. I was a depressed pile of mush at this point. So, as we often do after the pain of a race, I forgot about it and moved on. Until that day at soccer practice when my spider sense tingled, and I decided to go back to the website that I had so recently forgotten about to see if the waitlist had been posted. To my surprise, there was a link to the waitlist. I told myself not to be disappointed if my name was far down the list. I had already gone through the emotional letdown of not getting in through the lottery. To my surprise, there sat my name at the number two spot on the waitlist. Words which I usually don’t utter (let alone in the company of soccer parents I hardly know) escaped my lips. My wife looked at me with…surprise, shock, and anger. It would be hard to replicate, and I hope I never make her make that face again! To sit at the number two spot meant...

Racing/Training Tip of the Month Use The Winter to Cross Train If training isn't pressing right now, take up a different sport for a bit. We see many athletes use skiing as their primary winter sport. It provides so many benefits. It trains you aerobically, reduces impact forces, and strengthens muscles we don't usually use for running. Some of us do not have this option. So take up swimming, mountain biking, cycling, indoor rowing, or a combination of any of these. Continue to strength train 2-3 times a week. As for running, you can still run 3 days a week. Keep it under an hour and no harder than conversational pace (zone 3 HRT). |

Shoe I'm Excited About - The Enda Koobi Fora I'll start as I usually do with a disclaimer: I have no affiliation with Enda and gain nothing by this review! At this time I have not gotten my hands on a pair, but at the time of my writing this, a color is now available and I will be ordering. So why write about it? I want you to know about the company and support it! Why? My interest in this shoe stems from the company that makes the shoes, Enda. The company is Kenyan and makes the shoes in Kenya to benefit the Kenyan people & economy. I can get behind that! Secondly, I truly love the Enda Iten. A similar road shoe to the Koobi Fora in which I previously reviewed in this newsletter and on YouTube (https://youtu.be/yj-0QPQQNT4). The Iten is simple, lightweight, feels good under foot. The specs (which can be found at the link below) are promising for a potentially great trail shoe. From Enda's website “Koo-bee For-ah is an archeological site in Kenya where the first hominid footprints are found." With 4mm ramp and lugs that can be run on road or trail, the Koobi Fora seems to be a very versatile shoe from a company with a genuinely great mission statement! Please check them out!

Gear of the Month Raidlight Revolutiv 12L V2 Every once in awhile there's a new revolutionary idea in gear. Raidlight has taken a step forward with their packs! As a lesser known brand, and a brand not often present in the US market, they are often over looked, and thus I'd like to bring them to your attention. So what makes the difference in this Raidlight pack? They use a BOA dial to help with the fit of the pack. You can tighten or loosen the dial to help with the fit as well as reduce the bounce. They also have a great accessory for your poles in their Trail Quiver. Worth checking out (if in stock). There are 4 zipper pockets & 7 drop in pockets and water resistant material. Capacities for chest bottles (2) or bladder in the back. It's well thought out pack. If you can try it out at a shop or expo, I recommend doing so!

Fuel of the Month Skratch Energy Chews I'll be honest, these are hard to not want to eat at any time of day. The Raspberry has become a personal favorite. 140 calories per pack (10 chews). Good stuff!
