The Best Kids and Family Music of 2019: 14th Annual Fids and Kamily Music Award Winners

It is time to announce the 14th Annual Fids and Kamily Music Awards, celebrating the best in music for kids and families from the past year.  For more than a decade, we've tallied the votes of kids music experts across the country to name those albums deserving of highest acclaim.

This year's top spot goes to previous Fids & Kamily Award winners The Okee Dokee Brothers for their album Winterland.  There are a number of other artists familiar to the winners' list as well as some Fids and Kamily newcomers making up the top 12.

You can listen to selections from the top 12 by listening to this weekend's Spare the Rock, Spoil the Child on the air or by streaming it on the show’s website starting Sunday evening.

Along with these 25 albums, there were another 32 albums receiving at least one vote, making a total of 57 albums receiving one or more votes from the Poll's 17 judges.

The Fids and Kamily Poll is the first compilation of year-end kids and family music "best of" lists from critics, writers, radio programmers, and others involved in the music industry. The poll was launched in 2006 and was inspired by the Village Voice’s long-running “Pazz and Jop” music poll.  The poll uses the same eligibility dates as the Grammys, except that this year's F&K cutoff remained September 30 even as the Grammys shifted to August 31.  The poll is coordinated by Stefan Shepherd of the kids audio website Zooglobble and Bill Childs of Spare the Rock, Spoil the Child.  Fids and Kamily logo by Jeff Bogle of Out With The Kids.

This will be the final year of the Fids & Kamily awards, as we note in a separate post.  Stefan and Bill thank all the judges who have voted over the years, Amy Davis for her work in the awards' early years, the parents and librarians who have looked to F&K to make sure their kids music collections are as full as possible, and of course all the musicians whose music has graced these lists.  Your artistic efforts are what inspired the creation of these awards and will continue to make countless families' lives more inspired and musical for many years to come.

I agree with DW! I’ve always considered this the most credible list out there. Grammys carry a ton of weight, but let’s be honest, this is a list you cannot really “network” your way into, which is why it’s so special. RIP K&F
