Dear Friends,

We wanted you to know that this week the Texas House of Representatives Natural Resources Committee will hold public hearings in Austin covering topics of interest to many of us. While there are two days of water-related hearings, the second day will be most relevant for our purposes (August 24th). There are two things we encourage you to do:

  1. Submit testimony in person or online.
  2. Post on social media about the hearings. We’ve provided suggested content below.

Below is information on how to watch the hearings online and submit testimony; keep in mind that any official comments must relate to the hearing’s agenda. Please note that these hearings have not been created to directly address Marvin Nichols; they will be addressing broader water issues in Texas – specifically water infrastructure – but they do give us an opportunity to learn more about how our elected officials are addressing these issues, as well as raise awareness about our opposition to Marvin Nichols:

We would suggest engaging on social media before and during the hearing when Legislators and their staff members are paying attention to online conversations. We’ve crafted some suggested content below for you to cut and paste!

Texas lawmakers are talking #water this week in a public hearing of the Texas House Natural Resources Committee. I hope they keep in mind that #MarvinNichols is the costliest project in the state water plan AND it will have devastating impacts on the environment, the economy and the people in Northeast Texas. Through conservation and reuse, DFW can get the water it needs to thrive and grow. Find out more about the hearing here: https://capitol.texas.gov/tlodocs/87R/schedules/html/C3902022082310001.htm
