Hey Happeners, It's been as couple of weeks since our last update. Apologies for the silence as we were actually away on holiday for 2 weeks (though we did manage to keep the site updated!) It is encouraging to see more events are appearing in the calendar. There's several live music evenings, including classic rock and metal; there's some international DJs visiting Sri Lanka; there's a few more days of the Freddy "Goodbye Nation" stand-up comedy evenings; and there's some dinner events appearing too. So here's what's happening - for now. At 5pm on Thursday we are seeing posts about Friday events; there's a lot still announced late, so do keep checking our site; it's updated every day (even when we're on holiday!) so just check here ! Meal Deals and Food Offers The Joint have introduced an Executive Lunch menu available from 12.30pm to 3.00pm, Monday to Friday. It offers a choice three starters, three mains and three desserts and is priced at Rs2,250 per person. The ME Colombo have refreshed their High Tea platter with five savoury items and six sweet, plus of course tea or coffee, priced at Rs1900 per person. Advance reservations are needed, Pegasus Reef in Wattala have also introduced a high tea platter, with three tiers of sweet and savoury treats, priced at Rs3500 for two people. Friday and Saturday nights are Barbecue Nights at Cuisine Colombo in Pelawatta. There's a selection of BBQ platters on offer including chicken or pork chops. They are available from 6pm and you can BYOB. The Friday International Dinner Buffet is back at the Mandarina, with dishes from around the world. Drinks Deals Happy Hours now last longer at the Movenpick. At their ground floor Mansion Bar, it's a daily happy hour from 5.00pm to 8.00pm. Up at the rooftop Vistas, happy jhour is 4.00pm to 7.00pm from Sunday to Thursday, and from 4.00pm to 6.00pm on Friday and Saturday, It was International Beer Day last week but the Ramada is celebrating all month with a "Buy 2, get 1 free" deal on bottles of beer, all day, until 31 August. Wednesday still seems to the most popular day for Ladies' Nights. The Re.pub.lk offers selected free drinks for ladies from 7.00pm to 9.00pm, while Kava offers selected drinks free for ladies from 9.00pm to 11.00pm. Has anyone noticed a shortage of cabs around 9pm on a Wednesday? | | |

Live Music and DJs There's quite a bit more live music happening in the weeks ahead which is nice to see! This weekend Infinity are playing at Nelum Pokuna with guests Shihan, Nadeemal, Wasthi and La Signore. For fans of rugby AND music, you can combine these at "Scrumdown" on 20 August. Watch live screening of the rugby and then an afterparty with Corinne, Chithral and Umara performing with The Redeemers. "Classic Rock Night" at the Re.pub.lk on 20 August should be a treat for fans of classic rock. It features two band (Link and Stereo) and three solo artists (Shehara, Kirk and Ama) and doors will open at 6.00pm. "One Stage" on 26 August at The Taj Samudra features no less than five bands including The Slipping Chairs, The Warehouse Project, Magic Box Mixup, The Soul and Misty, starting at 7.00pm and going on till 4am. Let's hope the hotel guests are music fans! And on 27 August, "Deliver us from Evil" features Stigmata with guests Trishira and Sanjeev Niles. This will be at Taphouse, from 7.00pm. Coming back to this weekend and there's a good selection of bands playing on Friday and Saturday at the usual venues. For full details, check our Gig Guide which is updated at least once daily. If EDM and clubbing is more your thing, there doesn't seem to be any big beach party or other special event this week but there's DJ parties going on at all the clubs on Friday and Saturday. You can find the usual list in the diary on our home page. As well as the clubs, this Friday DJ Liam Cooper is playing at Asylum, with an all night happy hour, from 7.00pm. There's also a DJ party night at Sip & Savour roof top bar, with DJ Nick from 7.30. | | |

Other Events The latest series of Freddy stand up comedy has been on this week and there's still time to catch the last few days. This time the show features seven stand up comedians and the theme is "Goodbye Nation". It's at the Galadari Hotel at 6.30pm and the last date is this Sunday, 14 August. This Saturday there is salsa dancing again at Red Dwarf, upstairs above The Irish. There's Bachata and Kizomba, music is by Ricardo Deen and DJ Ridge D and there's buy one, get one free on selected cocktails from 9.30pm to midnight. Do you like creating your own wraps or kathi rolls? Food Studio are hosting a competition to "Create a Kathi Roll". First you select ingredients from a list, send your recipe to them with a name for the roll and the best entries will be invited to create the roll for real. Deadline for entries is 17 August. Speaking of Indian snacks, Taj Samudra is hosting a Khau Galli, an Indian street food festival, on their lawns. This runs from 12 August to 20 August and is open from 6.00pm to 10.00pm. Do you have a child who is interested in dinosaurs? The Wildlife and Nature Protection Society, Youth Wing, are hosting an online look "Into the Jurassic World", hosted by 14 year old Kiran Muttiah, This online event is on Saturday morning, 13 August from 10.30 to 11.30. | | |
