ANNAPOLIS OPENS POLICE SUBSTATION/COMMUNITY RESOURCE CENTERS |
On May 7, 2021, the City of Annapolis cut the ribbons on two new police substation/community resource centers: one in Robinwood and one at Harbour House. At the locations, in public housing units donated by the |
Housing Authority of the City of Annapolis (HACA), Community Service staff will hold regular hours. The Robinwood location is at 1453 Tyler Avenue; the Harbour House location is at 1155 Madison Street, Apt. S-4. |

The overall goal of the Office of Community Services is to improve the lives of Annapolis residents by giving people one place to go to find community resources and to assist residents in the areas of workforce development, eviction prevention, childcare, food insecurity, elder care, domestic violence prevention, substance use prevention and physical and mental healthcare. Residents who want to reach the Office of Community Services, call Erin Lee, Social Work Care Coordinator at 410-562-0169. THE JOY OF GIVING Dr. Aris T. Allen and Dr. Faye Watson Allen |
Famously echoed by all of us each and every Christmas, Dr. Aris T. Allen and Dr. Faye Watson Allen together and independently personified “the joy of giving”, here in Annapolis, at their office at the foot of Cathedral Street, each and every day, as they ministered to thousands of patients, with each of their careers spanning over 30 years, in their joint practice. Dr. Aris, from Texas, and Dr. Faye, from Ohio, met at Howard University where they both studied medicine. They married, raised their 2 sons, Tee and Lonnie, here in Annapolis, and gave our community literally, our “shots in the arms”, among many other treatments and examinations. Patients oftentimes would literally wait all day long in their offices to see them for treatment. (I can personally attest to the fact that I, along with many of my |
family and community members, was a part of this very long “wait-time”.) And back then, they even made house calls. Dr. Aris also found time to serve in the Maryland House of Delegates representing District 30 (Annapolis and our surrounding areas). Dr. Aris was also the first African American to be appointed to the Anne Arundel County Board of Education. And in her own right, "Dr. Faye" was the first African American female physician to practice medicine in Anne Arundel County. She was very active in numerous professional, civic, community, social and religious organizations, and received numerous honors and recognition awards. Additionally, Dr. Faye volunteered at the Parole Health Center and provided an extraordinary number of hours tending to patients. |

Aris T. Allen Boulevard (Rt. 665) in Annapolis was named in Dr. Aris’ honor. And a bust of Dr. Aris T. Allen sits in the garden between the Boulevard and Chinquapin Round Road. In 2018, the Greater Parole Community Association, Inc. began regularly tending to this garden area, especially on the City’s annual GreenScape Day in April. On April 28, 2018, there was a Chinquapin Dedication at the Aris T. Allen Memorial—namely, the |
“Re-Introduction of the Chinquapin Tree”, where I was asked to give remarks. As we look back on this pandemic, we likewise look back on the extraordinary lives of Physicians/Family Medicine Practitioners/Community Icons Aris T. Allen and Faye Watson Allen. (And a little known fact: Dr. Faye and the internationally known jazz singer and actress Nancy Wilson were distant cousins.) |
