Week 11 of 52
Timeboxing
This week I learned about a productivity tool called “timeboxing” (and apparently a lot of people use it).
It’s a process done in 3 steps:
1) Brain Dump
Write a list of everything you can think of to do.
2) Organize Your List
Move the 3 most important items to the top.
3) Schedule It
Assign each item a time (box) on your calendar.
The idea here is to train yourself to treat each item on your timebox-list with the same importance that you would treat your job.
And SHOW UP.
For example,
If you don’t show up to work at 9am, you could get fired.
Now let’s superimpose the severity of losing a job (losing all of our income / not being able to pay bills) overtop the idea of not completing the most important items on our personal list of things to do.
The question is, how much do we value the tasks we set for ourselves?
(Or, do we set any tasks for ourselves at all?)
Are there any dreams or goals that we have for the next year or 5 years?
And when do we take steps towards those goals and dreams? Consistently or only every once in a while?
Hopefully, timeboxing is able to help us find time to take the next step towards our goals.
Hope you have a great week!
