I've been thinking a lot lately about the beauty in silence.
So often, we're bombarded by noise— be it scrolling our instagram feeds, background podcasts/TV shows, or music. Sometimes it's just nice to not have anything going on in the background. To be there. Present. With yourself.
There's no need to have a podcast in the background at all times. While podcasts are a absolutely incredible resource to use for entertainment, education, and thought provocation; we don't need to be "on" 100% of the time. It's okay to simply be. To appreciate the moment.
I found myself using background audio as a distraction. I told myself that there was no need to "down time." I told myself that I needed to utilize every waking moment for productivity; when honestly, it did the opposite. I started to lose track of my own presence; my own goals, my own thoughts— and I used audio to distract myself from reality.
It's okay to do the dishes in silence. Or to clean your room to the tune of your own thoughts. YOU have so much in you that needs to be honored to. Finding the balance between listening to background audio, and being with yourself is quite the little dance. It's all about that balance.
Just a thought I've been mulling over for the last few weeks. Not quite sure what to make of it. Balance can be a challenge. But of course the first step is being aware of how you're spending your time, and then ultimately choosing how you want to do so.
Catch ya next Sunday,
