2019 Grants Awarded to:

• City of Woodland:  New Participant Youth Tennis Scholarship, Round 5  $1800

The JTFS tennis programs offered by Woodland have introduced over 250 new players in their community in the past four years.  With the 2019 grant they will continue to train new players and offer recreational opportunities for kids to have fun on our public courts.

• Carmichael Recreation and Parks District:  Carmichael Park Tennis $500

Carmichael Recreation and Parks District is also a returning grantee.  Being a smaller community there are fewer potential players to attract, but the participants have just as much fun in learning a new sport.

• Liberty Towers: Tennis 2.0 $1800

This is the second year that Liberty Towers (located in the community of Antelope) has been awarded a JTFS grant.  This school/church practices their tennis skills on campus with portable nets and then moves their clinics to Highlands High School for more advanced training.

**PLEASE KNOW that all our donors and sponsors are a part of these expanding tennis programs in our communities.  THANK YOU!!!**

Coaches Corner

This month Eric Steidlmayer, Head Coach Men’s Tennis, UCD gives us some tennis thoughts:

“Tennis is always a game where the person who makes the last ball wins the point.   And as the top pros and top recreational players know all too well, keeping your opponent off balance is crucial to them making errors and NOT hitting winners.   Keep your opponent in a position on the court that they do not care for.  If they have a weaker net game, draw them to the net.  If they do not like low balls, slice it low.  If they do not like high balls, hit them high.  It may sound simplistic, but when you focus on what makes your opponent NOT do so well, you have a concrete game plan that will work.”

Thank you, Eric!!
