Kids Bike Jam

On Saturday June 22nd we hosted our first kids bike day since before the Covid-19 pandemic!  More than 60 kids and their families showed up to enjoy the Seaparc bike park with us.  Highlights of the day included coaching from Nolan Riding, a visit from the Sooke Fire Department and the t-shirt laucher!  Thanks so much to Sooke 2 for 1 pizza for feeding our volunteers, Nolan Riding for sending amazing coaches, the Sooke Lions Club, Seaparc, and the District of Sooke.

Special thanks to everyone who showed up for our work party the week before.  We gave the bike park some much needed love before the event.

District of Sooke supports SBC

with $7000 grant

This spring the club applied for a community grant from the district of Sooke, and they generously awarded us the maximum amount of $7000!  The grant funded the Kids Bike Jam, and allowed us to buy a tent to use during events and tools for trail maintenance at Harbourview (Sea to Sea Regional Park).

Meet our new President

Hi, I’m Scott Philip and I’m very excited to be the 2024/25 Sooke Bike Club president.

My mountain bike career started in the 90’s on a fully rigid Kona Hahanna.  I moved to Sooke in 2008 and fell in love with the trails and people here.  My favorite trail at Harbourview is probably Raven.

My goals as SBC president are:

  • To grow our membership by increasing engagement

  • Increase the club's youth engagement

  • Add to the number of trails and variety of trails in Sooke

Grouse Climb Trail Reroute a GO

Very exciting news! Our former Trail Director, Bob Weeks, worked with the CRD to get approval to reroute and improve the Grouse climb trail at Harbourview, and our new Trail Director, Dave Duff, will lead the project, starting soon.  Keep an eye on your email for upcoming dig days.

(Red line on the map indicates reroute)

Trail Director David Duff and President Scott Philip recently met with CRD representatives to discuss outstanding trail sustainability projects and our upcoming license agreement renewal (2025) to maintain the trails at Harbourview.  We had a productive and collaborative meeting. The mutual respect and trust built between the SBC and the CRD over the past several years is evident.  I am hopeful we will see expanded rights and responsibilities with our new agreement.
