Ladies, Fun is right around the corner! I cannot remember the last time that we had a Sunday in Bokeelia with nothing but blue skies, no clouds, and gentle breezes. It was a refreshing change, yet you had to stay in the shade during midday to enjoy. The mornings and evenings seem to be a little cooler almost every day and I am encouraged that this is truly a sign that fall is about to arrive. Our meeting is Tuesday, September 12th at Fine Swine, and we'll be presenting Pine Island Elementary with a check from the PIE Fishing Derby that we hosted in May. In spite of all that this island has been through, it sure is nice to celebrate from time to time and get back to what we do best - Making a Positive Difference in Our Community! Keep the positive attitudes and smiles on your faces. Please remember to bring two non-perishable items for the Food Pantry and gently used bras for Free The Girls. Lots to share at the meeting and I hope to see you, Madam DJ |

Enjoy your trip through Matlacha from the Yucatan to Miceli's! Trash and construction debris have been picked up compliments of your Matlacha Hookers, with help from volunteers of Calusa Land Trust and Pine Island Garden Club. This trash pick up took two sessions. On September 2, Shirley Noble, Heidi Lutz, Kimmy Rasmussen, and Lorie Tidwell spent a brutal 2.5 hours picking up 14 contractor bags of trash and 8 piles of construction debris between Miceli's and Shoreview Drive. Idalia's wind and water flushed out the mangroves along Pine Island Road, allowing access to a bunch of trash previously not visible. We came back on September 9 to finish the job. Adding Deb Syring, Joel Russo, and Joyce Boyer, plus Cheryl King and Joan Rosenberg from Calusa Land Trust and Pine Island Garden Club. Another hot and humid morning, but before noon, we had Pine Island Road whipped into shape. Our Lee County partners, Fred Vocaturo and Juan Lopez, once again picked up our bags and piles, so we can enjoy the clean landscape coming through Matlacha on our way home to Pine Island. Thanks to all who participated and for continuing to make a positive difference in our beloved community. Shirley and Lorie Adopt a Road Co-Chairs |
