FOHP June Update

Dear Friends & Neighbors,

Thank you all for writing in and attending the City Council Meeting on 6/21/2021.

The yard signs, flyers, emails, and phone calls raised critical awareness to the proposed development in a very short time.  The result is that FOHP mobilized over 1000+ online supporters and hundreds of letters to the City, all requesting a pause to the proposed development.

At the meeting, 60%+ of meeting participants polled said "No" to the RFQ for the site adjacent to Hauke Park. The city ultimately chose to disregard our collective voice and pushed forward with what was very clearly a predetermined vote, spurred on by nation-wide special interest groups.

It was also hardly a surprise, given the constantly changing information provided by the city,  that the site boundary and footprint were again moved ...for the 3rd time in a month.  The City then stated this will continue to shift as the selected developer sees fit.

Nontheless, our position remains unchanged: the proposed development is too large for the neighborhood, it negatively impacts traffic and parking, and the process should incorporate other viable sites and options.

What's next?  We are encouraged to see immense neighborhood interest, and hope to count on your continued support as we initiate next steps in our mission to protect the open space around Hauke Park from a minimum 40-unit high density development.  If you would like to be an active part of the next phase, please let us know!

We could not have come this far without you, and we will continue to speak loudly and proudly for Hauke Park.

With warmest regards,

Friends of Hauke Park
