Join us for another year of recruitment events! This year, we will be hosting 39 prospective students, so we will need all hands on deck. BESA Book Club

We're kicking off the BESA Health Book Club with "The Book of Joy: Lasting Happiness in a Changing World". Get it from Shields Library or the local library and look out for more information coming soon! If you didn't get a chance yet and you are interested, please fill out this survey. We'll be discussing pages 1-78. Hope to see you there!

BESA Industry Tour: Profusa, Inc.

Profusa is a biotech company working to pioneer tissue-integrating biosensors for continuous monitoring of body chemistries. Several BESA alum, including Dr. Debika Mitra and Dr. Armaun Emami, currently work at Profusa. To get an inside look at what this company is all about, RSVP here.

Apply for the CCST Science & Technology Policy Fellows Program

CCST is now accepting applications for next year's class of CCST Science & Technology Policy Fellows, a year of government service in the California State Legislature or Executive Branch. The CCST Science Fellows program is open to those holding a PhD or equivalent degree in science, engineering, or social science fields such as economics, sociology, or psychology. 

 

Support BESA by ordering business cards or buying some BESA swag!

Business cards are available through Repro Graphics for interested students and post-docs. Standard cards are $28.55 for 500. Please contact our treasurer Caitlin for more info. Christal also has a variety of BESA items for purchase in her office, including some BESA pint glasses, the most recent BESA T-shirt, and a variety of older BESA T-shirts. BMEGG Research Symposium committee soliciting nominations for career panel

The 2020 BMEGG Research Symposium (Friday, May 29) is only a few months away! We will need help with some of the details, including setting the final schedule, abstract scoring, and more. If you would like to help out as part of the 2020 Planning Committee, email Liz at lzli@ucdavis.edu. This year we will be having a panel centered around the question: 'Why did you choose the path you chose?' We hope that the panel represents a broad range of backgrounds/career paths in the Sacramento Region/Bay Area. Please submit panel nominations to this form. 

 

Northern California Biomaterials Day registration and abstract submission are now open

The Society for Biomaterials student chapter at UC Davis is hosting the second annual Northern California Biomaterials Day on Friday, April 17. We invite you to join us and researchers from Northern California universities, as well as industry professionals from the Bay Area and greater Sacramento region, in promoting advancements in biomaterial science. Abstracts are due March 24. Register here.

    (Pre)Valentines Day Lunch

    Another successful student-faculty lunch in the books! This month's lunch featured a poem contest, won by 5th year Charlotte Vorwald with her poem on RNA. Great job to all of the contestants and to Bobby for being a stellar MC!  

    BESA Sacramento Lunch

    We had a BESA Fun Friday Lunch Meetup at the UC Davis Medical Center. Students took advantage of the Spring-like weather and dined together outside. 

    Coffee Hour With Dr. George

    Dr. Steve George joined BESA members at the February coffee hour to discuss the proposed BMEGG-BME consolidation. Dr. George listened to student worries about the potential merger and welcomed any questions. Thanks again to Dr. George for his time and support!
