Gratitude
Thank you for signing up for the Communities for Youth monthly newsletter! Each month we will share key updates on the Boise City Initiative; however, if you have a question or a comment to share in the meantime, please do not hesitate to contact us.
Thank you for helping us create the best possible communities for our kids.
Action Team Update
Let’s meet on November 28th from 11:30 AM-1 PM to talk about how your organizations, neighbors, and friends can help us build social connections and upstream prevention in Boise. Let us know if you’ll be there. Lunch will be provided!
We are focusing on enhancing parent and youth engagement and we need your help to do so. If you know any parents who would want to be a part of this city-wide effort, please share this sign-up link with the caring people in your life.
Learn More About Upstream Prevention
We believe that Communities for Youth’s prevention approach is the key to turning the tide on the Idaho youth mental health crisis and ensuring everyone in our community can thrive. We also know that the term “Upstream Prevention” is new to many people, so you can learn more about the approach on the website.
Supportive Resources
It is clear our community is in need. There is a way through, and we can work together on prevention. In the meantime, we may need resources on how to process loss in challenging times. Our website has resources on this and many topics, if you have a specific question or support need, please feel free to reach out to us.
Also, if you have a student in the Boise District, you have access (for your whole family) to FREE counseling sessions! Check out BPA Health today.
What can you do to continue supporting the citywide initiative?

How to Spread the Word
Talk to a friend or someone in your community who cares about kids about our initiative and how we move the needle on mental health for kids in Boise…
Raise awareness in our community about upstream prevention work. We know from our own experience that there are things in our communities that can protect kids from poor mental health outcomes (for example: deep, connected relationships). Upstream prevention focuses on building communities that are great for kids, so they are simply less likely to need crisis care. We may never have enough mental health care providers to “bail us out” of this problem, but we can work to make better communities starting today and we don’t need any special training or knowledge to do so.
Raise awareness about why collecting data from youth is important. Surveys and focus groups with middle and high school kids provide us with two major tools; 1)We know what the actual needs are in real time, and 2)We can check our work to see if what we are trying is actually working. Collecting youth voice helps us target our actions and share an understanding of what’s really important.
Share the Action Team Invite/Link Below. Pretty soon we’ll be working together in community teams to make real change in
our communities for our kids. If you’re someone who cares about kids, but you just haven’t known what to do about youth mental health in Boise, join the Boise Action Team.
