Minutes from February 13, 2023 Meeting of Tree City Quilters Guild
Trish Everitt opened the meeting by welcoming all. In attendance were 38 members, including new
member Dondy Smith, and 2 visitors (Lynn Berberich and Ann Fordek). Trish recognized Peggy Bessinger,
Dera Muszick, Gwen Lombard, Elaine Peltcs, Becky Zolt, Cathy McVay, and Ione Pinks, all who were
celebrating February birthdays.
1. Old Business
a. The January minutes were approved. First and second motions to approve were made by Sharon Fuentes and Susan Boyd, respectively.
b. The January Treasurer’s report was approved. First and second motions to approve were made by Marité Haynes and Cathy McVay, respectively.
2. Committees:
a. Charity (Sharon Fuentes):
i. A quilt was displayed that was to be raffled for members only. Tickets ($10/each) will be available at February and March meetings. Drawing for quilt will be at March meeting.
ii. Senior Center will be opened February 20, for Charity workday.
b. Food Bank (Vicky Bergath): Non-perishable food items and donations will be accepted during March meeting. Checks should be made out to Bread of the Mighty Food Bank.
c. Retreat (Linda McSwain):
i. Spring retreat is to be held at Grace Baptist March 24 and 25 (Friday: 9am-9pm and Saturday: 9am-7pm).
ii. Several mini-workshops are to be announced.
iii. Tables will be available for free and “for sale” items.
iv. The fee for attendance ($50) covers the cost of 2 meals each retreat day.
v. Linda requested volunteers to help with meals.
d. Project: (Cathy McVay) A proposal of a guild-sponsored Beginners Quilt Class was presented. A quilt top consisting of twelve 12-inch public-domain blocks was shown as a possible design for a “beginner’s quilt”. Volunteers were requested to help with settling on quilt design, and structure and location of classes.
3. Program: Dannise Kemp, the Miss D of Miss D’s Quilt Shop, Palatka, Florida, spoke about the upcoming All-Florida Shop Hop (March 1-April 30, 2023). The 60 participating shops (including Miss D’s) will offer special discounts to holders of passports, which are only available in the All-Florida Hop Shop book. Miss D sold the last books her shop had and said that more books were on order.
4. Announcements:
a. Several members announced that they had not received the February Newsletter.
b. Theresa Morales announced that Quilters of Alachua Day Guild is participating in a Quilt Trail. Quilts are to be displayed at Alachua County libraries March 1-31.
c. Betty Sue Vincent asked members for support for Vicky Bergath and her husband, both of whom were facing surgeries.
Door Prizes were won by Nora Avery and Vanda O’Neill.
Following Show and Tell, the meeting was adjourned.
