Thoughts of the Week - Rebecca
Well, following up from our previous newsletter, can you believe that my parents-in-law finally got their campervan back, via the breakdown company, last Tuesday! So that's TEN days since they were brought back themselves. If you did not receive our previous newsletter, you can read about the whole saga HERE. I'm going to write a complaint letter for them. It's odd that I've now been getting RAC adverts popping up on my Facebook! This kind of thing gives me the heebie jeebies. It makes you wonder whether companies like Facebook are actually listening in to you! Because I only remember mentioning their ordeal in messages to private Whats App groups and in this newsletter! This prompted me to go into my phone settings and check which apps have access to my microphone and - surprise, surprise - Facebook was one of them! Needless to say, I have now blocked it! There's an interesting article about this HERE.
I've been finding some welcome distraction in watching the postponed Euro 2020. For those who aren't interested in football (soccer), you can scroll on now if you like! I've enjoyed watching other matches as well as the England matches. It was shocking to see Christian Eriksen suffer from a cardiac arrest during the Finland vs Denmark game - I do hope he makes a full recovery and is able to continue his sporting career.
It would be lovely to win Euro 2020 and give our nation and our fans something to smile about at last. Having Welsh and Belgian heritage (and Irish, though neither Irish team reached these finals...and I'm sure our nan mentioned having a Spanish great uncle!), we could lend our support to other teams, if England do get knocked out.
But it won't feel the same. Author Nick Hornby described it perfectly as "the unbearable hope -- and inevitable pain -- of supporting England"! Perhaps we are dreamers doomed to failure but, then, isn't it "unfulfilled dreams that keep us alive"?! (Robert H.Schuller)
As a nation, I'd say, we have always felt like outsiders and, since leaving the EU, this has, of course, only got worse - perhaps made even starker when we received the notorious nil points in the recent Eurovision Song contest! To be fair, our singer wasn't very memorable and we do need to start taking this competition as seriously as other countries do.
I will still forever love the spectacle, ridiculousness and glamour of Eurovision and would love to be there one day! There’s something so magical about an entire continent coming together for such a huge event – particularly as it takes the focus away from all the anxiety-inducing headlines being churned out of Europe on a daily basis. It’s a night of friendship, of underdogs triumphing over adversity, of glorious optimism.
Talking of which, the idea of underdogs triumphing against the odds is a theme in our new fantasy series, though Victoria and I did disagree on whether to ultimately give our main romantic characters a happy ending! Is Victoria the "darker" twin for wanting a tragic ending?!
Once we have finished it, you will have to read it to find out which of us triumphed!
For now, we hope to get your appetite whetted with our exclusive Tribes of Feralis - Book One cover reveal, displayed below, as promised!
As it's early days, this hasn't been revealed, yet, anywhere else!
We adore it. We hope you do too!
Here's a short pitch to give you a teaser of what the book's about:
"A world of animalistic tribes. A set of deadly trials. A boy destined to be Alpha. But fate can rise up to bite you, especially when you have a misfit sister harboring a dangerous ability that could tear your world apart."
