Recap of Week 4 & more

Release Date: Monday, September 18, 2023

Greetings & a cheerful Monday to all Room 115 kindergarten families!

I hope this message finds you with smiles and sunny spirits after a delightful weekend. Week 4 zipped by and it was filled with colorful adventures, creative journaling, and preparations for the upcoming MAP testing week.

We wrapped up our exploration of colors with lively color poems and celebrated International Dot Day with a burst of creative activities that were dotty in the best possible way. This Friday fun was made possible by our fantastic classroom contributors – a big thanks to them!

Now, as we gear up for a week of MAP testing starting on Tuesday, please ensure your mini-scholars are well-rested and fueled up with a hearty breakfast to power their brilliance. While we're here to answer any essential questions you may have about MAP, please remember that it's just a small snapshot of what your young learner knows. We'll dive deeper into MAP scores during our parent-teacher conferences at the end of October.

Below is a deeper look into what we did during Week 4 & more.

Have a great week!!

Ms. Clark

Phonics

Your child has studied 3 snap words/ sight words so far this school year. During Week 3 we worked on the words I & AM. During Week 4 your child learned about the word CAN. As students worked on writing this past week they were encouraged to complete the sentence:

I CAN ______.

After MAP testing we will begin our STAR Letter of the Day. More info to come soon!

Focus Books of the Week

We had a fantastic week filled with three captivating read-aloud adventures! It all started with 'The Magical Yet,' where we explored the power of a growth mindset. As our colorful journey concluded, 'Pete the Cat I Love My White Shoes' sparked our imaginations, wondering what Pete might step in and how it would change his shoes' colors.

Finally, we wrapped up the week on an artistic note by celebrating International Dot Day with 'The Dot' by Peter H. Reynolds. This led us into a day brimming with creative dot activities and exciting learning experiences, inspiring students to build self-confidence and unleash their creativity!

Handwriting

In hadwriting your child has been working on drawing & using play dough to create straight lines and curvy lines.

They are reminded daily to start their letters & numbers from the top.

In math we continue our counting to 100 by 1's and 10's, number writing practice, and focusing on numbers within 5.
