Kia ora, yay,

Your inbox is probably full of 'It's Spring!" newsletters, so hopefully

this mail brings you a breath of fresh air. Though as I sit writing this the daffodils are staring at me from

their vase...

With the trees waking up and blossom lining the street again, it seems there's more energy in the air as I move into my busier time of year for conferences and live drawing.

I worked with Whenua Futures and Te Weu Tairāwhiti, on their project for one of the National Science Challenges. The project was called

Higher carbon prices: Impacts on farming and forestry whānau.

This specifically looked at the impact of climate change, land use and the forestry economy in the Tairāwhiti region.

We developed a set of 6 illustrations and 4 animated videos, outlining pros and cons of potential futures depending on which 'route' we take. A bit like an adult version of 'choose your own adventure' books... with positive futures to aim for!

The coolest part is an interactive dashboard where you're in control of what to increase or decrease and it shows you what the likely future could be if we did it.

(Spoiler alert: the best option is diversity!)

Check out the 6x posters (like the one below) here.

Or watch the videos here.

In the same way eating a variety of foods is best for our health, the project above highlighted how important a diverse approach is. Having a landscape of all pine trees or all dairy farming foregoes the richness our environment naturally wants to provide.

It's like only hearing from one voice at a conference. We all have different stories, backgrounds and experiences that different folks would benefit to learn from. Variety really is the spice for creating a nourishing and sustainable existence.

Thanks for reading! Your inbox is a sacred space & I’m grateful to be a part of it.
