What We’ve Been Up To

We had a very busy Refugee Week this year!

Thanks to The National Lottery Heritage Fund we hosted our own celebration to mark the end of our first history project, The Colours of Greenwich, at The Tramshed. 28 women participated in the project and each contributed to a beautiful creative map which they presented at the event.

The group told histories of Sudan, Nigeria, China, Algeria, Sudan and so many more stories behind each patchwork piece.

They asked the audience to consider this year’s Refugee Week theme ‘compassion’ and how we can show compassion to other people’s migration stories, with one audience member commenting, ‘there's nothing like understanding what other people go through until you listen’.

We will be handing the artwork over to the Living Refugee Archive at our showcase event in September, so keep checking our social media for more information about the event!

Thanks to Royal Borough of Greenwich we had the opportunity to participate in their Refugee Week celebration by showing our co-produced documentary Light The Way and sharing what compassion means to us.

Connection is what makes us stronger.

Oneness. There is more that connects us than divides us. We are all human!

Motivating and uplifting each other is what makes us flourish.

Passionate. We are passionate to make a positive change in our communities.

Action. Action is what gives us hope.

Supporting. We support each other in whatever way we can.

Strength in unity is one of our core values. We find strength in each other and for each other.

Inspiring. We inspire each other to be better and more confident.

Offering. We offer our voices to be heard with love, positivity and respect.

Nurturing. We nurture love, speak the truth, seeking justice and freedom.

Thanks to Luca Silvestrini's Protein dance school, as part of There and Here - A Celebration at Woolwich Works, we performed our dance pieces that show our migration stories and how the journeys changed us. It was a truly colourful and joyful day celebrating our creativity and resilience, supported by Greenwich Borough of Sanctuary.

What We’ve Got Coming Up

Thanks to South East London Integrated Care System we've been running creative workshops for our Mums' Voices project, which will lead to writing a report looking into how maternity services can be improved for migrant women.

We have 2 workshops coming up on Tuesday 4th July:

  1. At Plumcroft Primary School, 9am - 11am

  2. At Lewisham Refugee and Migrant Network, 2.45pm - 4pm

Complete our Mums' Voices Survey

Are you a migrant woman who is pregnant or a new mother? Or do you know someone who is?

We want to hear about migrant women's experiences with maternity services in South East London.

The survey should only take 5 minutes and will help improve maternity care services for migrant women in the future!
