EDIM Future Think Tank Workshop

California’s Department of Health Care Services (DHCS) reached a significant milestone by hosting the first in-person all-manager event since the onset of COVID-19. The Future Forward Think Tank marked not only a return to in-person gatherings but also a proactive step toward shaping their future, emphasizing the importance of unity and strategic foresight in EDIM’s operations.

Following a fun and affirming icebreaker, Phil Heinrich, Assistant Deputy Director, delivered a keynote address outlining the Department's vision and EDIM's transformative journey. He emphasized the critical role of data in enhancing health management for DHCS members, setting a profound context for the day's activities and highlighting the stakes and opportunities ahead.

A significant portion of the event was dedicated to completing Sabot’s maturity model assessment, where leaders reflected on their current team dynamics and envisioned their growth over the next two years. This exercise was an eye-opener for many, revealing that while there is much to achieve, the path forward is clear and filled with potential.

As the day concluded, Richard Ernst. Data Exchange Section Chief,  shared an inspiring story about cultivating a fully inclusive, high-functioning team, setting a powerful example for all leaders. The event wrapped up with encouraging words from EDIM’s division chiefs, who affirmed their commitment to support and facilitate the journey toward becoming a level 5 organization.

Sue Hall, Sabot Director, and Caleb Omogbara, Sabot Project manager facilitated, the event and in celebration of Public Service Week, they took a moment to acknowledge and appreciate the dedication of all EDIM team members. The day was filled with learning, inspiration, and celebration—a fitting tribute to the public servants who drive our mission forward.

The Future Forward Think Tank was not just an event but a pivotal step toward a future where collaboration and strategic data use enhance every aspect of our service delivery. We look forward to carrying the momentum and insights gained into our continued efforts to make a difference in the lives of those we serve. Together, we are on an exciting path to innovation and excellence in public service.
