I hope you are all well. Can you believe how fast this year is flying by‽
I wanted to stay in touch and let you know about some upcoming and recently passed projects.
I’ve finally been able to get back to some performing. Some things are still up in the air because of the regulations being different in every location but I’m so happy and thankful to be fortunate enough to continue making music.
Next week(!) if you will be in Berlin I am singing with a group called Opera Dinners. We have a matinee on 30.10.2021 at Apollo Saal in Staatsoper Berlin and an evening show at Spiegelsaal, Clärchens Ballhaus. The evening show is sold-out but the afternoon show at Staatsoper Berlin still has tickets and the theme is “Opera meets Champagne & Currywurst”. It is sure to be a very fun day. I’ll be singing Einsam in trüben tagen, Dich theure halle, and the Aida finale. If you’re available you can get a ticket here.
As a lot of you know I love singing Wagner. When I learned about the Wesendonck lieder a number of years ago I instantly fell in love, wanted to record them, and could “see” them as a staged piece. The poetry is so unique and it isn’t often that I sing words (or music) written by women of any time period. Over the summer I applied to the Akademie der Künste for a grant to work on this project and it was approved! I’ve been working with director Mary Kelly in creating a staged piece that includes the Wesendonck lieder. What we've created deals with feelings of belonging, depression, and acts of desperation.I think that most of Wagner’s works, and especially these songs, have at their core stories and feelings that are universally understood. So, included alongside the songs are poems from contemporary women, people of color, and trans people to highlight the universal feelings of the songs. It is a staged piece that can be performed live. Since I did a lot of the planning during lockdown, we will film a closed performance of the it which will be released on YouTube for a limited amount of time in February. I’m so thankful to the Akademie der Künste for partially funding this project that is very special and dear to me. Be on the lookout for more info in a few months.
Last month, I performed in one of the most spectacular shows I’ve had the privilege to be a part of. Soul Dance took place at Admiralspalast and is a group of extremely talented dancers who perform to live music. I was very happy to sing some Jazz and Latin standards as well as some pop songs (sung with a classical twist of course) with the band and was in absolute awe at these dancers. I should have some additional photos and I think a video of the whole show soon and will let you know.
Also last month I performed at Kulturhaus Schwartzsche Villa for the first time with Mo’Voce. We performed our Autumn Leaves concert. We will perform a Christmas concert there again next month. You can get tickets here!
Additional projects of which I am very proud and thankful for
Upcoming I will perform in an artist produced performance of Elektra where I am singing the Aufseherin. This is the first time I’m singing a Strauss role. So far it is difficult but I love it. I’m excited about the project and you can learn more about it.
I also have the opportunity to do a role study/cover of Brünnhilde in Wagner’s Siegfried. I am very excited for this opportunity to learn and coach this role with the Berlin Wagner Gruppe.
