Looking Forward and Looking Back

The months are ticking by and the race is getting closer - just 110 days to go now!  Before we look ahead though, it's time to look back across 43 years of race history.

The Book of the Race is Coming

The race has an amazing history going back to 1977, when seven intrepid teams set off on the first event.  In the years since a rich cast of characters has sailed from Barmouth and set off up the 3 peaks, and there have been so many adventures along the way.

Martin Pound decided this history and the tales of the race had to be recorded, and he's teamed up with Rob Howard to produce the definitive book on the race.

Martin has raced many times in Moby J and won in 2017, and Rob has been reporting on and photographing the race for 3 decades.

There is a lot of race history to research and if you have a great tale to tell, any old articles on the race, or a special photo, they'd love to hear from you.  Just click here and fill in the form to let them know what you want to contribute.

Team Profile - Marine Conservation Society

Our entry list is updated regularly and we'll post team profiles of all the entries in the coming weeks.

First up are Team Marine Conservation Society sailing the Hanse 375 'Blackbird' out of Chichester.

"For us on yacht Blackbird the sailors have had it on the bucket lists for over 25 years and as for the runners, well we took advantage of the lockdown blues to trick them into joining the party with the promise of a challenging adventure with open seas and open airs - it sounds irresistible!"

All teams will be receiving links where they can complete their online team and competitor profiles this week and for inclusion in the race programme these must be submitted by April 30th.

The 2021 Skippers Advice Guide is Out

For all those racing this year the indispensable 2021 Skippers Advice book, produced By Keith Mander is now available!

"This excellent and useful booklet is packed with tips to help give you advantages over every leg and section of the course. It provides local knowledge of Bardsey Sound, Caernarfon Bar, the Menai Straits and importantly the Swellies."

And if you are still looking for team members don't forget our Noticeboard page.

There are recent entries for very experienced racers looking to join teams.

See you in Barmouth in June!

Yours in adventure,
