Climate change requires we do what we can to preserve the wild spaces that remain. Last summer the temperature in the OK quarry was 40C, and the temperature along the forest trail was 25C. Deforestation reduces biodiversity and evapotranspiration which reduces rainfall, increases drought and forest fires, and accelerates climate change.

Thanks to community support, on April 10th the CRD Board passed motions to move forward the Regional Foodland Access Program Foodlands Trust. CRD staff is currently canvassing all municipalities to: - assess whether there is a desire to have the CRD operate a foodlands trust in partnership with a non-profit organization, and;
- whether any municipal lands could be made available for inclusion in a trust.
Each municipality has been requested to provide an indication of support to the Planning and Protective Services Committee by May 31st, 2019. It's time to talk to your municipal councilors and tell them why you support a food and farmland trust! Read more here. |

Sooke Hills Watershed Threatened |
Check out the fabulous images/video of the diversity of wildlife living in harmony just 30 minutes from downtown Victoria. The NDP wants to put a highway through Sooke Hills Wilderness Regional Park. Fortunately and thankfully, the CRD board, with tremendous public pressure, has said no to endangering our watershed and threatening the homes of innumerable animals, trees, plants and birds. |
However, it’s still vital to let the province know this is not acceptable. Despite being told it’s “just an emergency road”, the devastation from highway’s projects is clearly evident throughout this island. One cigarette from a car window and everything can change. It’s not worth the risk. Please be sure to let your MLA know and email premier@gov.bc.ca and george.heyman.MLA@leg.bc.ca. |
