The Key to Balance & Thur Class

Thursday class anyone? I have received a few requests to begin a Thursday class in the new year. Anyone else interested in making that part of their week? Just reply to this email to let me know. 

 

Onto balance. The first thing I think of is...use it or lose it ...which is a well-known fact.

 

A lesser known fact is strength breeds balance! The stronger you are overall, the better support you will find in your feet, ankles, hips, center, etc. It's all involved.

 

The Journal of Physical Therapy Science published a study in 2013 that confirmed this connection, showing a substantial improvement in balance with an increase in lower limb strength. 

 

Just one more reason we work on getting strong in class...but not just strong in the same shape over and over. While that is not wrong, strength benefits us the most when it's developed in different angles and positions. 

 

The beauty of our style of yoga is that we are using our body weight to get strong in lots of different ways, which is not only helpful for balance, but injury prevention in general. Simply put, intentionally moving in these ways prepares our body for life!
