Travel & Hospitality news: The Rush for Hotel Suites and Connecting Rooms Is On Families more used to renting homes on vacation now want a more communal experience during hotel stays, reports the WSJ (paywall) Continued flexibility from hybrid work and travelers bringing family members along on business trips has also contributed to increased demand, Hilton reports connecting room bookings are up 10 percent. Yes, Hotel Room Rates Are Up. But It Isn’t Price Gouging. Skift reports sticker shock is giving way to anger for many consumers. But the inflation data suggests that most hoteliers have raised prices in-line with their rising costs rather than capturing excess profits. Hotel Owners Start to Write Off San Francisco as Business Nosedives The city’s lodging business has been squeezed by crime and other quality-of-life issues reports the WSJ (paywall). The SF Yotel just sold at a foreclosure auction, 20 more hotels have loans due in the next two years, and the biggest potential hotel default, Park Hotels & Resorts last week said it has stopped making loan payments on debt secured by the Hilton San Francisco Union Square and Parc 55 San Francisco. The two hotels, with nearly 3,000 rooms between them, are in the heart of San Francisco’s shopping and cultural district. Tuesday is the New Friday According to the New York Post, the top night to go out for dinner is now on Tuesday in New York City. Have you noticed this shift in your market? Does this perfume ban at a new London hotel restaurant stink? Diners planning to visit the sushi restaurant at 45 Park Lane Dorchester may be surprised at a new rule in place, banning them to wear perfume. Sushi Kanesaka situated within the luxury Mayfair hotel has made clear in its dress code rules that patrons ‘do not wear perfume’, so as to not conflict with the restaurant’s vinegar aroma.
