SCROLLERS

The scrollers had their first meeting of the season in Anchorage on September 17th. We'd like to thank John, Gordon, Ray and Rhonda for attending. We were anticipating a large turnout from all the new people who requested information on the club at the State Fair. Unfortunately none were available this month. We will invite them all again to next month's meeting on the 15th of October at the AIH training Center. October's meeting theme will be Halloween and Thanksgiving. We will have several patterns available for anyone who would like to participate, but please feel free to bring your own. As always we'd love to see some of the projects you have completed.

During the Anchorage meeting we discussed the current bank balance for the club. Several suggestions were made on ways to increase our account. One of the ideas was to make items to sell at Artistry in Wood. For this the club members would donate the items to be sold and the proceeds will be going to our club. The scrollers will be domonstaring at Artistry in Wood and we are in need of volunteers. Please contact Ray if you'd like to volunteer and/or are willing to donate items to sell.

There was discussion on places that would benefit from the toys and puzzles that have been made. Some of the suggestions included the children's hospital, foster care agencies, nursing homes or elementary schools. We will be discussing this again next month and be making a decision. Please attend and let us know your opinion.

There was additional discussion on new patterns for next year's State Fair. We are considering adding a bear or moose puzzle. Any and all suggestions are welcome and appreciated.

The Wasilla club had their first meeting on September 24nd at SBS. We had 6 new people and 5 regular members in attendance. The new people were given a practice pattern to get them going. They were offered the choice of a Jack-O-Lantern or Alaska State pattern for their final project. Everyone left with a completed project and lots of smiles. There was a lot of interest in returning next month. Several will be bringing saws and one will be looking to buy a saw for the next meeting. The next meeting will be on the 22nd of October at SBS.

It was wonderful to see previous members coming to help teach to new scrollers. Teaching, learning and sharing is what this club is all about. Thank you everyone for your interest and efforts in building our club. We hope to see everyone at the meeting, either in Anchorage or Wasilla.

Happy Scrolling,

Ray Reynolds, President
