Quarterly Newsletter

SUMMER 2020

Read about our news and latest updates.

I'm so excited to finally release the debut of my Quarterly Newsletter to you all, as this has been a long time in the making. Originally, I'd planned on debuting a newsletter at the start of 2021 given the meaning of a new year generally always symbolizes something fresh and new. However, due to all that's going on in our current year, I figured there's no time quite like the present.

The purpose of my newsletter stems from the desire to have a special space to share my thoughts with you all on any given topic, including but not limited to interior design, home decor and a luxe lifestyle. My blogposts in particular are dedicated to those very topics. Yet, in addition to both my blog and social media posts...I'd like to use my platform to go deeper, offer encouragement, positivity and light where needed, speak my candid truths, and even share more about me and my general thoughts of the world and hot topics of today's society.

Whether you're a brand new subscriber or one of my loyal day 1s, it should come as no secret that I'm a proud born and raised New Orleanian. I've lived in many different places and cities (including both Los Angeles and New York) and consider myself to be fairly well traveled having also indulged in and visited other countries. But there is absolutely NO city in the world that makes my heart beat quite like the city of New Orleans. Or, very few if any that can make me smile, laugh and exude joy, swag, and happiness as I'm captured doing in the photos above and below.

With every breath in me, I always work to make sure my city and the culture I grew up on and so love in the most inexplicable way is represented. Not only in my work, which includes both of my careers, Film & Design, but also in everything that I do. I talk about New Orleans, I write about New Orleans and even my design style is heavily influenced by the aesthetic of New Orleans...the city I've known and loved all my life. Yet, I realized that even with all that I do to make sure my city is represented through my platform, there was still a desire to do and showcase even more.

If I had to explain my love for my city and its people what comes to mind is our loyalty and devotion to the thrill of the culture here and all that NOLA represents...the good, the bad, the struggles, the success and triumphs, but most importantly our resilience, hope and faith like none other. Somebody que Jay-Z (featuring Rihanna & Kanye West)

"Run This Town"

Feel it comin' in the air (yeah)

And the screams from everywhere (yeah)

I'm addicted to the thrill (I'm ready)

It's a dangerous love affair (what's up?, C'mon)

Can't be scared when it goes down

Got a problem, tell me now (what's up?)

Only thing that's on my mind (Whats up)

Is who's gonna run this town tonight (what's up?)

Is who's gonna run this town tonight (what's up?)

We gonna run this town!!

Thankfully I have one of the best Photographers in New Orleans, Mr. Stacy Marks, on my team that absolutely LOVES capturing exterior shots of the city and has built a large portion of his portfolio in some of the best spots in the city to shoot. In addition, my filmmaking career affords me the opportunity to always discover new locations to shoot in the city as well. So it was a no brainer that the theme or backdrop for my quarterly newsletters should always or rather frequently evoke the very essence and spirit of New Orleans with me frolicking about sharing the experience with you all. Plus it gives me and Stacy a great opportunity to shoot outdoors and capture new inspiring imagery beyond the world of interiors.

What We’re Up To

Like everyone else, I'm diligently working to stay safe, healthy, and sane in the midst of our current global pandemic crisis. I'm also trying my hardest to not eat everything in sight while I'm staying put and quarantining at home. But let me tell ya'll #thestruggleisreal!! I know ya'll see these extra fluffy quarantine pounds I've put on in my photos. Looking just as brown sugar thick and chunkalicious as I wanna be.  Don't get me wrong, I still have the formation of my southern belle curves, but I'm looking both curvy AND fluffy these days!!

It's ok, I'll lose some of this fluff soon enough. Yet, in the meantime...Sweet Baby Jesus please be a consistent diet!! Lord hear my prayer and now let the church say Amen!! 🙏🏾

With all that's currently going on in the world, I'm also working to explore and navigate my own thoughts and feelings in the racial climate of today. I've been very vocal on the topic via my social media platforms and will continue to do so, as I have no tolerance none so ever for hate, inequality, discrimination, racism and/or bigotry. In addition, I have no tolerance for anyone that will not see or love me as the beautiful, proud, fierce, "currently curvy & fluffy" and unapologetic black woman that I am and ALL that my blackness and the melanin in my skin represents.

It's clear that the #BlackLivesMatter movement is bigger than it's ever been, with so many of us literally fighting for our lives and screaming at the top of our lungs the need to be heard and seen as equal. In the midst of the movement the support of allies has grown and continues to do so daily. But I'd like to use my platform to challenge allies to NOT be part of the movement just for the moment.

Black people are NOT a trend!! We've been DOPE!! 365 days of the year, 24/7!!! And, in all honesty...We don't know any other way to be other than fly, dope and EXTRA!!

Case in point, the photo below captures me and all of my EXTRANESS!!  Get into it. Cuz you just might like it. 😉

Or, like Beyoncé says - Follow our parade, our #blackparade.

So whether you're here to support the movement, to help share our stories, or here to help raise awareness and more visibility to all of the Influencers of Color, or small or large brands founded by People of Color (such as myself)...be ready to make a loyal commitment, because the support is needed and desired well past just one or two social media features, or a few IG stories here and there. Like many of you, our brands become our livelihoods and take part in our own narratives of who and how we identify in this world. Yet, so many of us don't have the reach our brands deserve even when working just as hard, if not oftentimes harder than others.

Speaking of working hard...At the height of all that's going on, I like so many other creatives have taken this much needed quarantine time to not just work hard but to also catch up on some good rest. Winning and succeeding requires that we give our bodies self-care and the rest it needs to continue moving forward. And, when not resting and reflecting, I'm always and forever staying true to the craft of being creative. For me personally, I couldn't live nor breathe in a space where I can't share my creative talents with the world. For that reason alone, I wake up daily to do what I truly believe in my heart I was born to do - CREATE!

So in addition to the launch of my first quarterly newsletter, I have so much more to share with each and everyone of you, of all that I've been working on and creating these past few months. My latest Summer Styling blogpost is live and active. Be sure you check it out if you haven't already by clicking here.

I'll also be sharing some video content with you all very soon. Of course, Produced by me, yours truly. And, in addition more stunning photos via my social media platforms on both  Facebook and Instagram. So be sure to stay tuned for more.

Until next time...
