LAKESHORE FOOD CLUB

April 2019 Newsletter

LOVE.   FEED.   CONNECT.

POLITICAL RIVALRY ENDS IN A WIN FOR ALL

Local Democrats challenged local Republicans to benefit the Lakeshore Food Club! From January thru mid-March both parties conducted canned food drives to help Mason County families. Cash donations were also part of the challenge, with each dollar raised equating to one can of food. The losing party had to contribute an additional $50 to the Lakeshore Food Club.

When all was said and done, the Democrats won the challenge. The Food Club was the fortunate recipient of their kind efforts with 1,700 canned goods and $1,370 donated. Thank you to all who participated.

HAPPY NATIONAL VOLUNTEER WEEK

If you know anything about Lakeshore Food Club, you know the beating heart of our innovative choice pantry is our team of hardworking, dedicated volunteers. These awesome folks give of themselves to staff the Food Club six days a week! In total, volunteers put in about 130 hours each week, and in 2019 they've already clocked more than 1,800 hours! Without their efforts, the Food Club would not be able to offer the convenient hours and dignified service that are so central to LFC's mission.

Not only do these giving individuals stock shelves, greet members and sort donations - many also lend a hand helping to write newsletters, grants and articles. They build racks and shelves; they fix things that break; they find solutions to help manage inventory and waste; they plan events and fundraisers - and so much more! Basically these folks are rock stars, and we appreciate how they each lend their special talents to making the Food Club the wonderful place it is.

The Food Club staff and Board of Directors cannot say thank you enough to our volunteers. If you are a volunteer, THANK YOU, we see and love you! If you know a volunteer - be sure to thank them for all they do for our community. Happy Volunteer Week!

MEET SHERYL

Sheryl Fielding began volunteering in the fall last year. As part of her Bachelors of Science in Nursing program she worked on a community assessment project focusing on food insecurity, which led her to the Food Club. She is working full time but finds time to volunteer on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons.

Sheryl also became involved with the Food Council and Mason County Live Well Committee. She advocates for the needs of families in Mason County.
