Indiana's Housing & Community Development Authority's (IHCDA) Neighborhood Assistance Program (NAP) is a program of the State of Indiana that provides $2.5 million tax credits annually to non-profit organizations like us, for distribution as a fundraising tool. The program was created by Indiana Code 6-3.1-9. NAP credits are worth 50% of the value of a donation/contribution made to us by you. This means that a $200 donation to us nets a $100 tax credit for you. If you would like to know more or donate and receive a tax credit, click the learn more button below. |

We would like to extend our gratitude to all the providers from Indiana's Department of Child Services and Juvenile Probation for gracing us with their presence at our IARCA open house on July 20th. Their attendance meant the world to us, and we truly appreciate the unwavering support they have shown. Taking the time out of their busy schedules to tour our facility demonstrates their dedication, and we are immensely grateful for their interest and commitment. Indiana Association of Resources and Child Advocacy (IARCA) is a nonprofit association of concerned agencies who not only care for children and families, but also care about them. IARCA represents approximately 90 member agencies in Indiana, including Open Door Youth Services, providing a broad array of services, including residential care, transitional/independent living, shelter care, and crisis stabilization. |

We were thrilled to share earlier this month that we surpassed our gym upgrade goal of $20,000, with an incredible contribution of $17,312 coming from our generous friends at the Caesars Foundation of Floyd County. As we move forward now with the necessary funds, the next exciting step in this remodel is the $3,000 paint job to be completed in early August. Following that, we have plans to install new ceiling tiles, enhancing the entire space. After that, we will begin the long process of refinishing the floors. Our dedicated volunteers aim to complete all these improvements by the end of 2023, creating a fantastic facility for our youth to enjoy. |

Earlier this year we received a generous grant from Indiana's Criminal Justice Institute to implement Trauma-Informed Care: A Restorative Approach. This approach focuses on establishing safety, trustworthiness, collaboration, and empowerment to help the youth in our care attain the following: Develop safety and trust Conflict resolution Maintain appropriate boundaries Identification and understanding of own trauma symptoms Develop and use coping skills Ability to take effective action Improve brain function
This approach provides a foundational understanding of trauma’s impact on our youth's developing brain, then provides implications for treatment, the promotion of pro-social behaviors, and improving the culture among our youth and staff. Incorporating the key concepts of compassionate understanding, validation, skill teaching, and the primacy of trustworthy relationships for healing trauma and rebuilding connections in the child’s brain, this approach tackles some of the most difficult challenges in treatment settings with practical approaches grounded in theory and research. |
