May is National Home Improvement Month

About National Home Improvement Month

Almost two decades ago, The National Association of the Remodeling Industry (NARI) created National Home Improvement Month with the backing of the U.S. Congress. Today, this initiative—to help consumers learn about their homes, recognize signs that something needs repair, and to work with qualified experts—has gained new momentum with a new generation of homeowners who are spending more time at home.

“When NARI created National Home Improvement Month in 2002, we sought to celebrate and elevate the potential of home improvement,” said NARI CEO David R. Pekel, MCR, UDCP, CAPS. “As we adapt and change with the times, we’re proud that our members consistently offer the expertise and creativity to show homeowners all they can do with their homes—from small improvements to grand transformations. Especially today, we’re excited to devote this special month to showing homeowners how to turn their homes into safe havens for years to come.”

Blue Leaf Design Build is proud to be a member of NARI.

Upcoming Events

Blue Leaf Design Build is proud to sponsor of the 10th annual Elevation Celebration in Conifer, Colorado, July 29th and 30th.

Elevation Celebration is an annual festival held in Conifer, Colorado that celebrates the local community and the incredible people that call this place home. The festival takes place the last weekend in July, this year July 29th and 30th, and features a variety of family-friendly activities, food, and entertainment.

ALL ABOUT TILE

When it comes to selecting tile for your home, it is easy to become overwhelmed.  Visit the Blue Blog for more information on tile.

There are lots of things to consider when choosing tile.  What is your style?  Modern, farmhouse, traditional, etc. Look through magazines and online for images of tiles you like. Save them to a Pinterest or Houzz board.

Some considerations when selecting tile are:  What room is the tile for? How big is the room? Where is the tile going to be applied (kitchen, bath, shower, floor, etc)? What size tile do you want (large format, medium or small sized)?  What format of tile (subway, mosaic, encaustic, etc)? What type of tile (ceramic, porcelain, natural stone, glass, etc). What colors will you be using?  What finish do you want (polished, honed, glossy, etc)?

Application

Walls - Tile is a great option for kitchens, backsplashes, showers, and statement walls.

Backsplash -

Backsplash tile is usually a feature and adds character and style to your room.

Showers -

When selecting tile for shower areas, it is important to select tile rated for wet areas.

Shower Floors -

Opt for mosaic tiles for the shower floor.

Material

Ceramic tiles can be used anywhere and are generally the most cost-effective tile.

Porcelain is water-resistant and scratch/chip resistant.

Glass tile is waterproof and stain proof.

Natural Stone -

Some of the benefits of natural stone are that it is water, heat, stain & scratch resistant and can last for years.

Metal - As an accent tile, it can be used as a backsplash or feature wall.

Style

Subway tiles are rectangular tiles. Typically, they are 3 x 6 inches, but other sizes are available.

Textured tiles have rough surfaces. They are ideal for bathrooms, kitchens, as well as outdoor spaces and pool walking areas.

Mosaic tiles are perfect for backsplashes and shower floors, as well as accent and feature bands.

3D tiles are great to use as a feature or accent.

Encaustic tiles are tiles with patterns made from two to six different colors of clay.
