March Newsletter

Hey, church communication leaders!

We have some exciting updates to share with you. Our annual Communication workshop was a great success, and we want to express our gratitude to Dr. Bryant Taylor, the Southern Union Communication Director, and Christina Coston, the Associate Director, for taking the time to attend and share some fantastic materials and new communication-related "toys" with us. If you weren't able to attend you can view the recording here. We hope that you find these updates useful and that they help you to continue to communicate effectively with your congregations. Thank you for all that you do!

Handouts and Materials

Many of you have requested the PDF handouts from the Communication Workshop, as well as a copy of Christina's presentation slides. We are happy to announce that these resources will be available on the Communication Department's resource page on the Conference website later this month. Attendees have already received these materials via email. We appreciate your dedication to effective communication within your congregations.

44 Social Media Post Ideas For

Churches That Don't Get Ignored

We wanted to share with you a great resource for church communication tools and techniques on YouTube: Brady Shearer. His channel has become a go-to for us in the Communication team, and we think you'll love it too. In one of his recent videos, Shearer said, "this is a beast of a video. But if you watch through the whole thing and take good notes, I promise you'll have a refreshed perspective for what's possible on social at your church." We highly recommend checking out his videos, and we think they'll be a great supplement to what you learned at our recent Communication workshop. We hope you find this resource helpful and informative!

Adobe Podcast

Adobe has now released a new browser-based application called Adobe Podcast, formerly known as Project Shasta. This browser app allows you to record and edit audio without having to know how to edit audio. You can select and delete words or pauses from the transcript, and enhance your recording with AI technology to make

it sound like you are in a sound booth at a recording studio. The app also allows you to invite guests via phone or computer and enhance their audio as well, making it sound like you are both in the same room. This comes in handy when not everyone owns studio microphones. The invite feature is really cool because there is little to no latency, unlike recording over Zoom, where audio can be cut off when someone else tries to talk over another person.

Where could this come in handy for your church? One thought to increase your digital footprint by moving into the podcast world, outside of only hosting your church service recordings via podcast platforms, would be to create a Sabbath School Lesson Recap podcast. The moderator or host could invite different members to discuss each week's lessons. This is just one idea. Get your youth and young adults involved to come up with more ideas. The possibilities are endless!

*Focusing on Discipling*

During this quinquennium, one of the primary goals of the Administration is to help our churches prioritize discipleship. It is not uncommon for individuals to join our churches, only to leave later on not because they do not believe in the Adventist message, but due to a lack of connection. While we often hear that "our church is the friendliest church," it is essential to consider retention and pew numbers to assess how effective our efforts truly are.

As a Conference office family, we are collectively studying the Adventist Discipleship Handbook. We also encourage the leadership teams of all our churches, including elders, deacons,

Sabbath School leaders, praise team members, and communication leaders, to join us in studying this handbook together. By focusing on discipleship, we can engage all of our members, both new and seasoned, and work together to build stronger, more connected communities.
