Hello 😎, wishing everyone well.

As we go into May lockdown is easing, with non-essential shops, pubs and restaurants re-opening. Some of us might be finding this transition period harder than others, with this in the mind and to tie in with Mental Health Awareness week, the newsletter this month is focusing on Self-Care. Included below are some activities and resources to help relieve stress and tension.

Carving out a bit of time for yourself in the day can be hard to do what with work and life commitments, but if possible finding a little space and time everyday to reflect and relax can be really beneficial. Sometimes it's essential that we make time for the activities and practices that make us feel good otherwise we risk getting burnt-out, overwhelmed and down. Everyone is different so it might take a bit of figuring out what kinds of things bring more joy and calm into your life.

Art isn't everyone's cup of tea but there's much research to suggest that making and experiencing arts and culture can transform the quality of life for individuals and communities. Art-making can be a great distraction, giving you time to slow down and focus on the task at hand. Looking at art can transport us out of the everyday, and offer the chance to find connection with others through their stories, triumphs and struggles.

Hopefully the activities and resources listed below can bring a little bit of peace and respite if needed over the coming month.

All the best until next time.

ACTIVITIES & RESOURCES

READ, LISTEN, WATCH

Podcasts: Call Your Girlfriend

"Call Your Girlfriend is a podcast for long-distance besties everywhere co-hosted by Aminatou Sow and Ann Friedman, and executive produced by Gina Delvac. Every week, Aminatou and Ann call each other to discuss the intricacies of pop culture and the latest in politics.  We're Highbrow and lowbrow, fiercely opinionated, and not afraid to realtalk each other about everything from menstrual cycles and body shaming to the Cheeto in Chief and workplace drama. We highlight women who are agents, creators, movers, and shakers who have smart, interesting things to say. We also care deeply about the lived experiences of non-famous women who are just trying to get through the week. We’re here for every facet of women’s humanity."
