"The fishermen know that the sea is dangerous and the storm terrible, but they have never found these dangers sufficient reason for remaining ashore." - Vincent van Gogh |

hey there, ! We've already made it through a quarter of this wild and exciting year! And speaking of excitement, 2023 has been quite an adventure for me so far. From new experiences to forming valuable connections, this year has been packed with opportunities to learn, grow, and explore. And let me tell you, I am itching to share all of these amazing experiences with you as they come up! This month's newsletter explores a little bit of that. |

This month has been incredibly fulfilling for me as I've been devoting quite some time perfecting my website. I've been putting a lot of effort into both the design and content, and I must say, it's really starting to come together slowly. One of my main goals was to curate a proper portfolio to showcase my work. While there's still much to be done I'm happy with the progress I've made so far. It's fulfilling to see it slowly taking shape! |

And guess what? I finally took the plunge, and treated myself to the Procreate app! I've been using free drawing apps, but I wanted to invest in myself and my art. And let me tell you, Procreate has been incredible! The variety of tools and the freedom it provides has let me dive deep into my artistic expression, and discover the kind of art I like to create. Don't get me wrong, I still use my free drawing apps, but Procreate has added a new dimension to my creative journey. It's been wonderful for exploring :) |

March was a month of collecting inspiration. I looked at inspiration from going to bookstores, looking at pretty book covers, and taking notes from illustration books. Here's what the looked like! |
The highlight of this month was getting lost in bookstores, admiring all the stunning art on the book covers. There's something so exhilarating about discovering new artwork and the stories they represent. I stumbled upon some novels with stunning typography, vintage colour schemes, and design elements that added such a unique touch. As someone who's spent the last few years learning design and typography, I've developed a new appreciation for well-crafted designs. And boy, these covers did not disappoint. I could have spent hours pondering over the intricate details. |

I'm totally obsessed with these Paulo Coelho books. The colors, typography, and layouts of these books are mesmerizing. I'd like to incorporate similar elements into my own work. I'm hoping to purchase some eventually, because in this case, I did in fact, judge the book by its cover. |
I love these book covers so much too. They're all hardbound, have this lovely cloth finish, with some gorgeous details. What's even more interesting - these aren't even the original designs. They're still so incredibly captivating. The thought of having them all lined up on a shelf makes me giddy with excitement. Hehe. |

Last month I was introduced to the European Illustration books. This month, I dabbled into the 12th edition of the series. It was filled with stunning visuals taken from stamp-making, featuring several talented illustrators with their own unique styles. All the intro / category pages were stamp design artworks as well. It was really interesting. I spent a good 30 minutes at the library completely engrossed in its pages. And... I did not want to leave it. But alas, we must make it to our 9 am lectures. |
But I gave this short library session 100% of my attention. No phone, no pictures, no research, just me and the book. I made notes on everything I absorbed - sketches, scribbles, names, and even some questions that came to me. Flipping back to this page in my sketchbook always puts a big grin on my face. |
I ended this month with a 2 day residential workshop on woman empowerment. It was hosted by my mum and involved a reflective and informative counselling session organised by her Learning and Coaching firm, Grow with Satori. |
While I was at the resort, I stumbled upon a treasure trove of vintage newspaper clippings from the 60s to the 90s. The intricate art and illustration work on these pamphlets were absolutely breathtaking! It was like taking a step back in time and immersing myself in the history of graphic design. |
I loved seeing the detailed illustrations for newspaper ads. Another great source of inspiration. And a lovely way to cap off the month. |
