The Symptomatic Hypermobility | EDS HSD I Neurodivergence I Autism I ADHD I Dyspraxia I Tourette's + Charity

Welcome to our May newsletter! In what has possibly been one of the wettest May's in the UK for a while, we are still full of the joys of spring here at SEDSConnective, and working hard behind and in front of the scenes to grow our charity.

🟠May- Hypermobility Awareness EDS HSD pgJH Month

May was hypermobility awareness month #EDS #HSD and we decided to join along with other charities and turn orange to support and raise awareness.

We were delighted that our dear supporters Brighton Pier supported SEDSConnective and EDS Awareness Month by turning their famous illuminations Orange on May 1st.

Many of our members who are local to the area took some photos for us and shared these on social media.

We were also pleased to see local shopping centres and Malls, also change their lighting orange in support too.

🎨Art Therapy Course for Members!

We recently ran a wonderful art course for our members with Caroline Pendray who is a local and experienced mental art therapist.

Feedback from the mental and physical wellbeing programme with the Liberations Arts Gallery came to a close and we are delighted to have received such positive feedback.

Thank you to Caroline and our volunteers who were able to run this course for us and talks to us on our weekly online chat.

We have lots more big ideas going forward and we look forward to great partnerships in the future.

Exclusive webinar with SEDSConnective Patron Dr Eccles

We were delighted to host a webinar with our Patron Dr J Eccles on the Connections between Hypermobility and long Covid.

May of our members were able to register for our event and watch live.

It was an absolutely fascinating talk from Dr Eccles and we were honoured to have her with us to share her insights and research with our community.

We are a voluntary and user-led charity, and will be sharing the recording of the webinar to those who registered very soon. Keep an eye on your emails (including spam!)

We will later share the webinar publically for those who were unable to attend in due course. Please check our social media channels for updates on when this will be live.

Trigger Warning: Alcohol Addiction

Thank you to SEDSConnective member, Gale, for her recent blog article for us; Masking my Pain with Alcohol.

Gale has bravely shared her story with us, from battling with alcohol from a very young age to learning about her symptoms from our community.

"Neurodivergence seems to keep coming up. I have an ADHD assessment in July but on top of this I'm also a recovering alcoholic..."

Read Gale's full blog below.

For support with any of the issues in Gale's blog please contact us or take a look at The 12 steps rehab programme.

Please help us raise awareness

With news of a UK General Election in July - we were asked to pass on evidence of hypermobility #EDS #HSD and Neurodivergence to Andrew Selous MP who had not heard of these connections before.

We strongly believe that all voices in hypermobility and the associated connections should be heard, and we strive to constantly advocate for this message -and were happy to do our best by raising these issues with many policy makers and with other organisations.

Please help support us too by writing to your local MP or any politician, representing yourself but also supporting us as a charity, and having your views heard too.

We have created a supporting letter template below to help. Thank you.
