Hello, Round-Up Readers! Thank you for sharing the Round-Up this past week, we've been adding subscribers daily, your efforts are working. Please keep sharing! Welcome, if you're new 😃 Now, on to this week's news: - More predictions! Honestly, this must be the third week we're sharing forecasts for 2022, but there's so much interesting industry info that keeps coming...here we go!
- Growth ⬆️ Backed by lots of charts and data, Clayton Reid, CEO of travel industry marketing juggernaut, MMGY, says Omicron won't stand in the way of growth this year. Bottom line: booking indicators are strong, cancellations due to Omicron have a high re-booking rate. He predicts price sensitivity coming back in 2022 and new AI-driven marketing by the big brands.
- Is this travel industry ready for a boom in 2022? CNBC has concerns due to rampant labor shortages and flight challenges but sees some tech solutions.
- Pent-up demand for luxury and the unusual. Three more stories worth a look from Fathom, Washington Post, and the London Times Travel. A few common themes––people want to splurge on outdoorsy trips and exotic locations; an increased interest in family-run properties; the environment is a top concern, as is ethical and "regenerative travel" where money goes back into communities devastated by the pandemic.
- For drool-worthy luxury properties set to open in 2022, including the world's first energy-positive hotel in Norway, read Sleeper.
- Omicron is plateauing. From New York to London, this variant seems to be on the decline, causing optimism.
- Big step for equal pay in New York! New York City makes progress with a new bill authored by former New York City council member, Helen Rosenthal. The bill, which is awaiting mayoral approval, will require employers to provide the range of the minimum and maximum salary in every open position. Great to see pay transparency gaining momentum in NYC after Colorado and California passed legislation at the state level.
- For the LOLs 😂 and the lessons: comedian Jen Murphy boarded a cruise ship out of Miami on New Year's preparing to perform for 1,800 people. Thanks to COVID, she was put in quarantine in the bowels of the ship for over a week, never seeing the stage or light of day, read her story of survival in the LA Times.
- Reese v. Ina? When Reese Witherspoon posted about Atomic Habits on her Instagram, cooking contessa Ina Garten put her proverbial barefoot down. Offering up her own habits: 1. Drink more large cosmos 2. Stay up late watching addictive streaming series, 3. Stay in bed in the morning playing Sudoku instead of reading a good book. 4. Spend more time (safely) with people you love. She added, "in a pandemic, I do what I can." Cheers, we'll drink to that!
