During the last six months, we have in the CliCNord Research Project published articles and policy briefs, been in the media, presented at conferences, and had a great meeting in Norway – all of which you can read about in this newsletter

In March, we (the CliCNord Research Group) gathered in Iceland for our 3rd physical meeting. During the 5 days we among others experienced the harsh weather conditions here. On our drive from Reykjavik to the Westfjords, we ran into snow blizzard conditions on several stretches, especially crossing the mountain passes, where the visibility was only a few meters. We also visited the Avalanche Research Center in Ísafjörður and the Department of Civil Protection and Emergency Management in Reykjavik. Read more about the activities we had during the different days.

Day 1 - Day 2 - Day 3 - Day 4

CliCNord researchers have published two scientific articles in CliCNord’s topical collection titled “Place Attachment and Climate-related Hazard in Small Remote Communities” in the Regional Environmental Change journal.

  •  “Here, I will stay until I die”—exploring the relationship between place attachment, risk perception, and coping behavior in two small Norwegian communities

  •  Compound hazards of climate change, forestry, and other encroachments on winter pasturelands: a storyline approach in a forest reindeer herding community in Northern Sweden

CliCNord researchers have since the last newsletter presented at three conferences, which were at:

  • Icelandic Annual Forestry Conference in Reykjavík

  • 6th NOCCA (Nordic Conference on Climate Change Adaptation) in Reykjavík

  • "Beyond crisis/Beyond normal: A social science and humanities conference on sustainability" in Trondheim.

CliCNord has published two policy brief articles under the NordForsk “Fast track to Vision 2030”:

  • How to improve climate change adaptation in rural areas of the Nordic Region

  • Emergency management in small remote communities – an urgent issue in the Nordic countries

Finally, CliCNord’s research has been mentioned in the media:

  • Politiken (1/3-2023)

  • NordForsk News (22/5-2023)

  • Sosialurin (23/5-2023)

  • Ø-Posten (1/3-2023)

This project has received funding from the NordForsk Nordic Societal Security Programme under Grant Agreement No. 97229
