Do What You Want

February 2023 Newsletter

The church in Malawi, the main church pictured above, has expanded at a rapid pace since its planting in 2006.

The saying goes, “You get what you pay for.” This is so ingrained in our Western culture that we are expected to complain when we feel that the service we’ve received doesn’t measure up to what we have paid for. This is fine and good when we’re dining at a restaurant and the food is either under or overcooked, but this mindset won’t work in the Kingdom.

Jesus, Himself had to bow to the wishes of His Father when facing the cross: “…do what You want, not what I want.”(Matthew 26:39) Jesus must’ve felt at that moment that He wasn’t being treated fairly. Imagine paying for the faults of others and having the One Who sent you to the cross to pay that penalty ultimately turn His face from Him? Instead, Jesus said, “…do what You want…”

Still, our Father waits to get what He paid for with the price of His Son. At this moment, it may seem He didn’t get what He paid for, but in His estimation, you are worth it. Indeed, it was worth the hefty price.

Spotlight Malawi

Current stats:

·       8 churches (3 on the way)

·       3 schools

·       1 Hope Center feeding site

The work in Malawi has seen rapid growth since we started in 2006. We began with a small cell group meeting on our back porch and in the 17 years since its planting, we’ve seen rapid expansion. The work in Mozambique was spearheaded by our leaders from Malawi.

Since the latter part of last year, Malawi has been struggling under the weight of a severe cholera epidemic. Over 800 have lost their lives, schools were closed in major cities for a time, and local authorities have struggled to meet the healthcare needs of the nation.

Malawi Needs:

·      Finish building two of our school facilities serving children in both Blantyre and Lilongwe.

·      Finish building the main church facility and church plants.

·       Purchase property for one church that currently rents property from a school and meets in a very used tent.

Family News

In late January, Lea had to make an unplanned two-week-long trip to Florida to help care for her father who has faced health challenges. While difficult, her trip was needed and she was able to help the family settle her father into a nursing home in Lake Worth, Florida. We are grateful to all of those who have been praying for us during this difficult time.

Your prayers and partnership have made a mark on the continent.  Thank you again, Jamie, Lea, and Andreya
