This is an image of one of a handful of women fighter pilots in the US Air Force, flying the world's most advanced fighter jet, the F-35A. This plane has stealth capabilities, and other advanced technologies. The helmet alone is equipped with a data display projected onto the face shield-- the kind of enhanced reality experience you see in robot action movies. 

It was an absolute thrill to feel the scream of the engine fly by and see Maj. Kristin "BEO" Wolfe command the attention of onlookers, especially when she launched flares and then sped away approaching the speed of sound at over 700mph! (See my highlight reel of her adrenaline-inducing performance and that of others HERE.) In an interview on the Pacific Airshow program on Hulu, when asked about paving the way for other aspiring women pilots in such a male-dominated field, she gave credit to her parents for always encouraging her to do whatever she wanted in life. It takes that kind of strength with a healthy dose of chutzpah to transform the way the world is into what it should be.

This weekend's show coincided with several other events honoring & uplifting trailblazing women who dared to make a difference.

On Shabbat, the Jewish community observed the yahrzeit of the world's first woman rabbi, Rabbi Regina Jonas. She was ordained in 1935 in Berlin, and served until her life was cut short when she was deported to Auschwitz at the age of 42, in 1944. (See a short film on her HERE.) Her precise death date is unknown, so we mark her yahrzeit and honor her life at Parashat Bereishit, the first Torah portion of the year, to honor her being the first. We honor the great significance of her brief but courageous life.

Also this weekend, The Women's Rabbinic Network Board (on which I serve) held our annual retreat. We spent time reflecting on the many successes of the past year, and charting a path forward to continue to honor, support, and empower Reform women rabbis, and eliminate gender bias everywhere. It is incredibly energizing to look toward the future with my intrepid and visionary colleagues.

Finally, so many of our KITS community members posted about YOUR experiences attending local women's marches held this past weekend. Your framing of the issues, advocacy, and participation in & support of women-led organizations (like Keeping It Sacred & more!) drives the movement forward. You are responsible for advancement in the areas of religious equality, work pay equity, reproductive rights, and more. Together, we are boldly building a better future.
