Happy Holidays from Fiddlehead! |
What a year! Over and over, amidst the craziness of 2020, we have found ourselves feeling so thankful for our amazing Fiddlehead community. THANK YOU for being a part of that. We have a lot to cover in this newsletter, so here's what to expect: a letter from Oona, important information for the new year, a roundup of some of our favorite kid-friendly recipes, and a reminder about our COVID precautions. |

Dear Families, What a crazy year this has been! We could not have survived it without all your support and the generous spirit of our fiddlehead community. We are so proud of our students and how they have grown, meeting these new challenges (and boy have we had challenges) with an inspiring resilience. So as we look back at the year, I wanted to honor some of our projects, our creative and joyful experiences, and our ability to be together - while keeping one another safe. I hope you enjoy these photographic highlights.. On behalf of our staff and board, I want to wish each of you a wonderful and cozy holiday break. We have put together some recipes and family projects to do at home. Have fun. We will see you in 2021. Wow that feels good to say! Warmly, Oona |

We have three openings in our Thursday/Friday cohort beginning in January. We also have plenty of space in our Wednesday program. Please connect with us on social media and help us spread the word! |

We are also starting some exciting afternoon & evening offerings in the new year. Check them out below: |
| | Sculpture & Clay Fun with Suzanne Get ready to create cool 3-D art using clay and other sculpture materials. You will design, carve, and mold to create your awesome art as you learn clay hand building techniques. We’ll explore a variety of projects, including coil and pinch pots, slab mugs, polymer clay tiles and animals, and more. If you love to build, construct, and imagine, this class is for you! | | |
| | Draw, Paint, Illustrate with Angel In this 6th-8th grade evening class, students will learn many techniques in drawing, painting, and illustration. We will explore through different mediums and surfaces to create art that inspires us! From step-by-step instructions, exploration of color and lines, and even story telling without words, students will walk away with a breadth of new understanding and creativity. | | |
Tutoring with Mack and Zoe Two of our instructors, Zoe and Mack, are available for 30-minute, one-on-one or small group evening tutoring sessions for children who may benefit from individualized support during the challenges of remote learning. We specialize in math and reading/writing support for K-5 students, though may well be able to assist with other subjects/levels. |

February and April Vacation Camps |
We will be offering two one-week vacation camps this spring during the February and April breaks. We are first opening up these camps to our current families at a discounted rate. We are capping the camps at 16 kids, with spots for 8 students from each cohort on a first come, first serve basis. | | |

The Fun Stuff: Recipe Round-up |
With our December theme of "World Celebrations" in mind, we introduced a fun new adventure with our Tuesday aftercare kids: cooking around the world! Every few weeks, we cooked a recipe related to a different holiday around the world. They loved it, and there were many calls for recipe sharing, so we wanted to provide a resource where families could find easy, kid-friendly and kid-approved recipes (all of which can be made using just microwave and a toaster oven!) |
| | Tortillas Each of our students requested their ingredients in Spanish! | | |
| | Mug Cake No world celebration for this one - just for fun to celebrate a student's birthday :) | | |
| | Challah Bread Trying to teach our students how to braid was the funniest part of making this Hanukkah treat. | | |
| | St. Lucia Day We learned about this Swedish Christmas celebration and enjoyed these sweet buns with a side of apple cider. | | |
