Annual MFO “Leaders of Positive Change” Dinner April 11, 2024

“An evening that focuses on some of the wrap around services and collaborations that lead to positive change in our community and the role of our young people as leaders”

Thank you Lann Levinge and Glenn Barry for such a warm and inclusive Welcome to Country, opening the evening at Southport Sharks with over 400+ attending. MFO was privileged to have Hon Meaghan Scanlon MP, Acting Assistant Commissioner Melissa Adams QPS, Sam O’Connor MP and CEO for MFO Cornelia Babbage OAM address everyone before our keynote speakers took the stage. Thanks to Renata for visuals and photo compilation, Sohail for the fun SONSHINE Multicultural Men's group video and promo video about MFO by Renata.

As the gathering was held during Qld Youth Week, MFO focused upon the relationships we have built with young people through our various programs and working alongside like minded organisations. Our three keynote speakers spoke on gaps they have identified on the Gold Coast and how they addressed them in their own way, sharing good news stories and the importance of collaboration. MFO thanks to them for their passionate and inspiring contributions.

Multicultural Women’s Programs

During the past month MFO was delighted to host some great guest speakers who provided fascinating information to our women’s group. We would like to thank Ivana Strbac Alfonso for her inspiration talk about the power of our stories to heal and support us and Dan Bastic from QSTARS discussing tenancy rights.

We have also created some lovely artworks and shared a beautiful South African dish at the Women’s Space. Our sewing group is creating some lovely items that will be on sale at our Multicultural Festival in September. Our WE EARN program has been supporting women to prepare for and apply for work and we are busily preparing for Big City Lights Festival in June that will feature a beautiful film about migrant women by the amazing Jude Kalman. To join our programs please contact rana@mfo.org.au.
