The Secret Power of Kindness

The old axiom is true: people don't care how much you know until they know how much you care. While the world around us seems to devolve into chaos, fighting, and constant bickering, we want to chart a different way. A Jesus-centered way. We find ourselves in a cultural moment where people simply want to feel seen, heard, and loved.

The good news? A little kindness goes a long way. Come and worship at 9:00 am (traditional blended) or 10:30 am (contemporary) this Sunday, in-person or online. Hilltop invites 3rd grade students to receive a bible this Sunday, September 24th, at either worship service.

Not too late to join a Connect Group

The secret power of kindness is the self-awareness to know that you have the power to make or break someone else’s day, and eventually change the world. Kindness has no hidden agenda or strings attached. Its only purpose is to express love to another soul made in the image of God.

This Fall, the sermon series will be based on a book by Greg Atkinson, The Secret Power of Kindness, and this book will be the topic of discussion in all Connect Groups. Join in on the community read, read with friends or family, or join a Connect Group for discussion with other Hilltoppians. Connect Groups will start this week and will meet for six weeks. Register for a group or order the book only by clicking the link below. Books available at the Welcome Center.

Walk to Emmaus – An Invitation

The Walk to Emmaus is an opportunity to meet Jesus Christ in a new way as he is revealed through other believers. It is an experience that begins with prayerful discernment, followed by attending a three-day retreat experience of God's grace. There are fifteen talks regarding various aspects of Christianity, small group discussions, communion, lots of food, and fellowship during the weekend. Following the three days, participants are given an opportunity to join in small groups, and to continue to share in God's grace in a variety of ways, while supporting each other in all of our ongoing walks with Christ. Emmaus is a terrific part of discipleship development. The purpose of Walk to Emmaus is to develop leaders for the church. Walk to Emmaus will inspire, challenge, and equip participants for Christian action in their homes, churches, and places of work. Walk to Emmaus lifts up a way for our grace-filled lives to be lived and shared with others.

Upcoming Walks are October 26-29, 2023 for men and November 2-5, 2023 for women. These walks will be held at Lakeview Methodist Health Services in Fairmont, MN. Transportation to and from the walk is included and scholarships are available to cover the cost of the walk. If you are interested, contact Pastor Matt and he can put you in touch with others who have attended a Walk to Emmaus retreat.

Cost: The cost of the Walk is $135.00 for the entire weekend, which includes meals and lodging. Do not let finances be a barrier to going, options are available to assist you. Learn more about Minnesota Walk to Emmaus at: mnemmaus.org or facebook.com/mnwte

Welcome Center

What's the most important ministry at Hilltop... COFFEE! In all seriousness, hospitality on Sunday mornings is a simple way that guests are made to feel welcome. Do you want to be on that team - making coffee and serving treats and beverages? Please call or email the office at 507-387-3877 or office@mankatohilltop.org to learn more.

Green Bag Day

Hilltop collects non-perishable food donations for the ECHO food shelf monthly. We invite you to pick up a "Green Bag" on the third Sunday of each month, fill it with grocery items and return the following week. Monetary donations also accepted in the offering box (write ECHO on the memo line of your check.)

Church Softball Champions

We are thrilled to announce that our church softball team has won the Championship! It was an exciting finish with a play-in game against Riverside Church Monday night that ended in a one-run victory for our team. But we didn't stop there - we went on to beat Riverside again in the Championship game with a final score of 16-5. Congratulations to our amazing players for their hard work and dedication. We are so proud of them! This victory is a testament to the power of teamwork and the strength of our community. Thank you to everyone who supported our team along the way.
