September is Library Card Sign-up Month! A York County Library card helps you do more of what you enjoy. Borrow books, eBooks, and audiobooks, get homework help, or learn a new skill, all without stretching your budget! Get a free goodie bag with bookmarks, a pencil, a handheld fan, and more when you sign up for a YCL card this September. We'll also have some fun "I Got My Library Card Today" stickers for children and parents. Help celebrate the value of libraries! Tell us your "library element" for a chance to win great prizes from the American Library Association. One randomly selected winner will receive a $150 gift card, and three second-place winners will receive a poster of their choice from the ALA Store. Participating is easy: Snap a pic or shoot a video showcasing what you love about the library or choose a library element that best applies to you. Post to Instagram, X, or on the I Love Libraries Facebook page with the hashtag #HowILibrary. Tag your library and your friends to help spread the word!

YCL Welcomes New Assistant Director |
York County Library is excited to announce Martin House as our new Assistant Director! Martin joins us after working at Charlotte's Central Piedmont Community College since 2010, most recently as assistant Director of Public Services. Prior to that, he worked at Charlotte Mecklenburg Library for 12 years, serving as Manager of Information Services at the Main Library and, later, as Branch Manager for the Sugar Creek Library. |
On a personal note, Martin grew up and attended school in Germany through the eighth grade before leaving the country, eventually moving to Charlotte in 1990. His wife, Erinn, is a symphony musician, and his son, Alex, is in the eighth grade. When not working, Martin likes to spend time with his family, listen to audiobooks and podcasts, and watch the occasional movie. He is also a makerspace enthusiast who enjoys 3D printing and creating his own designs. Martin also has an Ed.D. in Organizational Leadership, and his many years of managing staff, library services, and facilities will serve him well in his new role. Please join us in welcoming Martin to the YCL family! |
