HSC Seals Free Beginner Training 10-15 yo - MEMBERS ONLY   iCal entry for this event

We are delighted to be able to offer a short beginners training course for our youth aged from 10 to 15 years. There will be 3 sessions:-

2 April 11:00am to 12:00pm for an overview, check of buoyancy aids and helmet fitting, a lesson on rigging the Zest dinghies and an opportunity for Q&A.
23 April 3:00pm to 6:00pm for sailing
21 May 2022 2:00pm to 5:00pm for sailing

These times have been chosen to give us the best possible tides to maximise our sailing in the harbour.

The training will be provided by our very own Margaret Norris who is a highly experienced RYA Dinghy Instructor. These sessions are about learning - we want you to get a good understanding of the basics of sailing so you’ll need to come ready to concentratelisten and learn. In return you'll get the opportunity to take both the helm and crew position in our fantastic RS Zest club dinghies and experience the joy of sailing in our wonderful harbour.

We have 8 places available on these sessions and there will be no charge. However, we do ask you to commit to  a few things so please make sure that you are happy with all of these points before you sign up:

1) We need you to commit to attending all the sessions. This ensures that everyone learns at a similar pace and each session can pick up where the first one left off. It will not be possible to attend sessions if you have missed earlier ones.

2) Participants need to be current HSC members.

3) Please be aware that the sessions may have to be cancelled if we have bad weather, although we would try to avoid this by finding other relevant activities that will help develop skills. If we do have to cancel then we may try to run an additional session but we will decide at the time whether this is possible.

4) Participants need to be at the club and ready 5 minutes before the start time. Apart from the first date, you will need to be wearing a suitable wetsuit and a buoyancy aid (we will try to help out with buoyancy aids if you do not have one). In addition, you will need suitable shoes for use in the water (trainers are OK but they WILL get wet). A hat and windproof / spray top may be sensible if conditions are cool. We may have a small number of spray tops available to borrow but can’t guarantee that we will have one to fit everyone. Also, please apply sunscreen (we’re thinking positive!).

5) All participants must wear a helmet. If you have your own (kayaking or sailing helmet) then please bring it. If not, we will seek to provide a helmet. We will arrange this when we meet on 2 April.

5) Please collect your children on time after the training - and don’t forget to bring a towel and warm / dry clothing.

7) Parents and guardians need to be contactable by mobile phone but are asked NOT to be in the immediate vicinity of the training as this can be a distraction. However, please feel free to take photos during the last half hour of the sessions - and also to offer your services to help put things away after the children have de-rigged their boats. The clubhouse will be open to members throughout the training.

8) If children take regular medicine (e.g. asthma inhaler) or have allergies (e.g. bee stings) then they should bring their medicine with them, clearly marked with their name and usage. We can then carry it in the safety boat. Children must be able to self-administer.

Finally, if you would like to book but all places have gone, please email seals@highcliffesailing.co.uk and we will let you know if anyone drops out.

Please note by booking session on 2nd April you will be signing up for all 3 sessions.

If you have any further questions, then just email Dave at seals@highcliffesailing.co.uk
